  • Publication number: 20070230879
Abstract: Armored fiber optic cables and methods for making are disclosed that include an armor layer generally surrounding a fiber optic cable that includes at least one optical waveguide and a cable jacket. The cable jacket has an outer diameter and armor layer has an inner surface, wherein a gap exists between the outer diameter of the cable jacket and the inner surface of the armor layer. The armored fiber optic cable further includes a centering element disposed in the gap between the fiber optic cable and the armor layer. The centering element generally inhibits the fiber optic cable from moving away from a middle of the armored fiber optic cable towards the inner surface of the armor layer during winding of the armored fiber optic cable, thereby inhibiting wavy armor and/or preserving the optical performance of the at least one optical waveguide.

  • Publication number: 20050013573
Abstract: Fiber optic articles, assemblies, and cables preserve optical performance by using optical waveguides having a core, a cladding, and a coating system according to the present invention. Moreover, the optical articles, assemblies, and cables of the present invention may achieve performance levels that were previously unattainable, for instance, the present invention contemplates acceptable optical performance for wavelengths such as 1625 nm and higher. Additionally, articles, assemblies, and/or cables of the present invention advantageously preserve optical performance, i.e., have relatively low delta attenuation, when subjected to manufacturing processes and/or environmental conditions such as temperature cycling. In other words, the articles, assemblies, and cables can withstand increased stress/strain before having significant attenuation.

  • Patent number: 6670167
Abstract: The present invention relates to the identification, isolation and purification of the catalytic domain of the human effector checkpoint protein kinase (hChk1). A 1.7Å crystal structure of the hChk1 kinase domain in the active conformation is reported herein. The kinase domain of hChk1 and its associated crystal structure is described for use in the discovery, identification and characterization of inhibitors of hChk1. This structure provides a three-dimensional description of the binding site of the hChk1 for structure-based design of small molecule inhibitors thereof as therapeutic agents. Inhibitors of hChk1 find utility in the treatment of hyperproliferative disorders such as HIV and cancer.
