  • Publication number: 20020078188
Abstract: A method, system, and program is provided to redirect a client computer to an appropriate boot server after it has been directed to any initial boot server by preboot execution environment (PXE) or similar services. An apparatus includes a data file containing a set of addresses of managed boot servers in any syntax and a program file containing a network bootstrap program (NBP) that interprets the syntax of the data file. These files are placed on every initial boot server. The NBP requests a file from the initial boot server whose name is identified with the client computer. The initial boot server will not return that file if it is not an appropriate server for booting the client. In that case, the NBP requests the data file containing the boot server addresses. The NBP then polls each of those boot servers by requesting the client's unique file. A boot server that returns the file is an appropriate boot server for the client computer.

  • Publication number: 20020078169
Abstract: A method, system, and computer program product for managing results in a locale independent manner in a multi-node networked data processing system is provided. In one embodiment, a first node sends a command request to a second node. The command request contains a command and a locale in which the text of the result is desired. The first node receives the results of execution from the command request sent to and executed on the second node. The result generated by the second node in response to the command request includes one or more messages, wherein each message contains a unique message identifier, locale in which its associated text is stored, and text associated with the message. Responsive to a determination that the locale of the message text is in a locale different from a desired locale, the first node replaces the message text contained within the result with message text corresponding to the desired locale to produce a modified result and sends the modified result to the requesting client node.

  • Publication number: 20020059192
Abstract: A searching procedure, particularly for searching on the Internet, using a search engine associated with a database and comprising submitting a request string comprising a locator (or URL) for the search engine and a search string including at least one search term. This will be an invalid address so an error signal is generated, and the generation thereof is monitored and used to trigger parsing of the request into the locator and the search string. The search string is then submitted to the search engine having the specified locator; and the data returned from the search engine is passed back to the user. The invention also includes a computer readable medium and a set of application program interfaces on such a medium for use in effecting the above procedure. The invention allows convenient searching from a command line.

  • Publication number: 20020057537
Abstract: A method for producing magneto resistive heads includes the steps of positioning at least two magneto resistive elements in spaced relation to one another and placing the at least two magneto resistive elements in an ion milling environment where material is removed nonselectively from items in the environment. A property of at least two of the plurality of magneto resistive elements is monitored. In response to monitoring, one of the at least two magneto resistive elements is dynamically covered to prevent additional removal of material from the covered magneto resistive element.

  • Patent number: 6386178
Abstract: An electronic throttle control mechanism having a housing and cover member with a throttle valve, gear mechanism, motor, and failsafe mechanism. The housing, cover member and other components are made of a plastic composite material. A spring member positioned between the housing and sector gear member which is attached to the throttle valve shaft, biases the throttle valve plate member toward the closed position. A spring-biased plunger member biases the throttle plate member from its closed position to a default or “limp-home” position. A metal reinforcing plate is molded into the cover member in order to keep the gears in alignment and maintain proper gear positioning during high temperature fluctuations.

  • Patent number: 6384125
Abstract: This invention is a process for making modified silica filler comprising the steps of: (A) contacting an acidic aqueous suspension of precipitated or colloidal silica, optionally in the presence of a surfactant and/or a water-miscible solvent, with a combination of (a) a functionalizing coupling agent, and (b) an organometallic hydrophobing compound in a weight ratio of (a) to (b) of at least 0.001 to 1 to form an acidic aqueous suspension of chemically treated silica filler having a pH of 2.0 or less (B) treating the acidic aqueous suspension of the chemically treated filler with an acid-neutralizing agent to increase the pH of the suspension to a range of from greater than 2.0 to 10, and (C) recovering the chemically treated filler. This invention is also modified silica filler that has a pH of from about 5.0 to 10.0, where the silica filler is made by the method of this invention.

  • Patent number: 6382330
Abstract: An apparatus and method for controlling an underground boring machine during boring or reaming operations. A boring tool is displaced along an underground path while being rotated. In response to variations in underground conditions impacting boring tool progress along the underground path, a control system modifies the rate of boring tool displacement along the underground path while rotating the boring tool at a selected rotation rate to optimize excavation productivity. The controller may also monitor the rate at which liquid is pumped through the borehole and automatically adjust the rate of displacement and/or the liquid flow rate so that sufficient liquid is flowing through the borehole to remove the cuttings and debris generated by the boring tool.

  • Patent number: 6368444
Abstract: A method for stretching nonwoven sheet material in the cross-machine direction includes coursing a nonwoven sheet material through a deformable nip, the nip being formed between two rotating stretch surfaces having intermeshing peaks and troughs, the surfaces of the peaks and troughs being covered with a deformable material, and contemporaneously pressing the stretch surfaces together while rotating them, such that as the nonwoven material travels through the nip, the nip deforms from an initial flat formation into a convoluted formation.

  • Patent number: 6364066
Abstract: An elevator rescue system provides rescue signals from a remote control station. The rescue signals typically operate a release mechanism such as the brake to allow the elevator to move to an appropriate door zone. The rescue signals are preferably sent from a remote control station such as may typically monitor a number of elevators. Essentially, the rescue signal is initiated when the remote control station receives a signal from the elevator monitoring system that a particular elevator is likely to have trapped passengers. As an initial step, the remote control station ensures there is no safety reason not to move the elevator, and then remotely commands operation of an elevator component that allows the elevator cab to move.

  • Patent number: 6347613
Abstract: An electronic throttle control mechanism having a housing and cover member with a throttle valve, gear mechanism, motor, and failsafe mechanism. The housing, cover member and other components are made of a plastic composite material. A spring member positioned between the housing and sector gear member which is attached to the throttle valve shaft, biases the throttle valve plate member toward the closed position. A spring-biased plunger member biases the throttle plate member from its closed position to a default or “limp-home” position. Several of the components, such as the motor holder, electrical connectors and housing for the throttle position sensor (TPS), are molded together into the cover member to form an integrated modular assembly. This reduces the cost and weight and improves the reliability and overall size of the mechanism.

  • Publication number: 20020010311
Abstract: A polyimide film that exhibits improved peel strength when clad with a metal layer is prepared by reacting a polyamic acid polymer and an esterified polyamic acid oligomer. The esterified oligomer has from two to twenty repeating units and at least two crosslinkable groups selected from the group consisting of carbonyl, cyano, hydroxy, alkyne, maleimide, norbornene and sulfonyl groups. The polyamic acid is dissolved in a solvent to form a polyamic acid solution, which has a minimum gel-film forming temperature, or a minimum green film forming temperature, associated therewith. The esterified polyamic acid oligomer has an imidization temperature, which is higher than the minimum gel-film forming temperature, or the minimum green film forming temperature, of the polyamic acid solution.
