  • Patent number: 7736124
Abstract: A turbine rotor blade includes a hollow airfoil joined to a platform and dovetail. A main flow channel extends longitudinally in span through the blade and is bound chordally by opposite partitions transversely bridging opposite sidewalls of the airfoil. A damper rib and transversely opposite damper pad are arranged together in a plurality of pairs spaced longitudinally apart in the airfoil and chordally positioned intermediate to the partitions to provide unobstructed forward and aft portions of the flow channel for channeling a coolant therethrough. The damper ribs and pads are configured to receive a wire damper through the channel to locally dampen vibration while minimizing obstruction of the coolant flow therethrough.

  • Publication number: 20080181777
Abstract: A power generating turbine is disclosed having a vertical axis, a generator connected to the vertical axis, and coupled blades connected to the vertical axis. The coupled blades are a horizontal axis; one or more blades, comprising a first set of blades, attached near one end of the horizontal axis; and one or more blades, comprising a second set of blades, attached near the opposing end of the horizontal axis wherein the broad sides of the second set of blades are orthogonal to the broad sides of the first set of blades, the broad sides of the blades are parallel to the horizontal axis, and the blades pivot on a vertical path. The middle portion of the horizontal axis is pivotably connected to the vertical axis. Solar cells can be attached to various parts of a turbine for generating power.

  • Patent number: 7371046
Abstract: A turbine airfoil may be a rotating blade having a single platform, or a stationary nozzle having a pair of platforms. The airfoil body has pressure and suction sidewalls extending between leading and trailing edges. A compound fillet is disposed between the airfoil body and at least one of the platforms. The compound fillet includes a concave first fillet having a first radius, and a concave second fillet having a second, greater radius. The second fillet extends from the leading edge downstream along the suction sidewall and terminates at a point upstream of the trailing edge. The second fillet may also extend downstream from the leading edge along the pressure sidewall.

  • Patent number: 7118342
Abstract: A turbine blade includes an airfoil having pressure and suction sidewalls extending between leading and trailing edges and root and tip. The tip includes squealer ribs extending from a tip floor forming an open tip cavity. The rib along the pressure sidewall has a squared external corner, and a flute extends along the base of the rib at the tip floor.
