  • Patent number: 12060991
Abstract: A light pipe for an electronic device, such as a barcode-reading device, can include a plurality of light-redirecting surfaces that are each positioned to receive light from a light source within the interior portion of the barcode-reading device and to redirect the light toward an optical element positioned on an exterior surface of the barcode-reading device. The plurality of light sources and the plurality of light-redirecting surfaces can collectively produce a uniform light output at the optical element when all of the plurality of light sources are activated. The light pipe can also include a plurality of optical barriers interspersed between the plurality of light-redirecting surfaces to isolate light from individual light sources. This allows for a segmented light output to be projected onto the optical element. The light pipe can be made from a flexible and resilient material, thereby allowing the light pipe to provide shock absorption.

  • Publication number: 20070226790
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for managing and protecting electronic content and applications. Applications, content, and/or users can be given credentials by one or more credentialing authorities upon satisfaction of a set of requirements. Rights management software/hardware is used to attach and detect these credentials, and to enforce rules that indicate how content and applications may be used if certain credentials are present or absent. In one embodiment an application may condition access to a piece of electronic content upon the content's possession of a credential from a first entity, while the content may condition access upon the application's possession of a credential from a second entity and/or the user's possession of a credential from a third entity. Use of credentials in this manner enables a wide variety of relatively complex and flexible control arrangements to be put in place and enforced with relatively simple rights management technology.

  • Publication number: 20070143094
Abstract: Systems, methods and media for an integrated experimental planning, design, and analysis framework are disclosed for describing an experimental design in a data processing system. The framework includes a collection of structured experimental state inputs for organizing possible experimental information. A configurable table structure is simultaneously displayed along with the collection of structured experimental state inputs . A user is provided with the ability to cause automatic setup of the configurable table structure based on user's selection of one of a plurality of experimental techniques. The configurable table structure may be further modified using direct or drag and drop operations. Once the user has completed the modification of entries in the configurable table structure, selected processing of experiments are carried. Outputs from the executed experiments are stored and integrated into the configurable table structure.

  • Publication number: 20070124506
Abstract: Systems, methods and media for dynamically generating a portal site map, including portlets of the portal site map, are disclosed. Embodiments may include determining a root node of a navigational construct of a portal site, where the root node has one or more child nodes. Embodiments may further include recursively crawling through the one or more child nodes of the root node to discover a composition subtree for at least one of the child nodes, the composition subtree comprising information relating to one or more portlets associated with at least one of the child nodes. Embodiments may further include generating a portal site map having an indication of the one or more child nodes and an indication of the one or more portlets associated with at least one of the child nodes. Further embodiments may include generating a portlet response based on the generated portal site map.

  • Publication number: 20060250360
Abstract: A method and implementing system are provided for enabling selection and transfer of snippets of data, including graphics and file level objects, among computer systems. In an exemplary embodiment, a wireless, universal serial bus (USB) or other portable mouse-type device includes its own flash memory and software to allow a user to transfer on-screen snippet and file level data, via the mouse device, from one computer to another by using “Select”, “Cut”, “Copy”, “Paste” and other features of the operating system.
