  • Publication number: 20070240120
Abstract: In a managed execution environment, an error may be deferred until execution of the application, program, function, or other assemblage of code reaches a point at which calling the reference to a module associated with a missing type or type member becomes inevitable.

  • Patent number: 7266804
Abstract: A strategy is described for associating an InternalsVisibleTo (IVT) attribute with a non-public resource of a first assembly. The IVT attribute names a second assembly. By virtue of the IVT attribute, during runtime, the non-public resource in the first assembly is made visible to the second assembly. In addition to naming the second assembly, the IVT attribute can include a number of optional arguments, such as arguments which specify the version, culture, and public key token associated with the second assembly.

  • Patent number: 7124405
Abstract: A system and method for mitigating problems associated with automatic execution of initialization code is provided. The system includes an initialization method activator that can call a class initialization method at a predetermined execution point. The system also includes a deadlock analyzer that can determine whether calling the initialization method will create a deadlock, and, if a deadlock is detected that can resolve such a deadlock. The system also includes a semantic analyzing component that can analyze a semantic type associated with the initialization method and a domain uniqueness analyzer that can analyze the uniqueness of the domain with which the class will interact, to facilitate determining where to place code that will check whether a class is initialized, and if the class is not initialized that will invoke the class initializing method.

  • Patent number: 6836883
Abstract: A method and system for compiling multiple source language files that share a common library. The common library is represented in a common language that can be used by multiple different source languages. Font end compiler systems read the common language files that make up the common library and the source language files that use the library. Additionally, the front end systems produce common language files. The common language files produced by the front end systems can be used in the common library. The common language files may also be supplied to a back end system or runtime environment that further compiles the common language file to an executable form and executes the file. At runtime, the common language file is used by the runtime environment to layout the objects and methods used during execution.

  • Publication number: 20040216094
Abstract: A type system includes a dual representation for basic data types. One representation is the basic data type representation common to such basic built-in data types, known as an unboxed value type or simply as a value type. Each of the basic data types also has a boxed representation that can be stored in the object hierarchy of the type system. This dual representation can also be extended to user-defined types, so that user-defined types may exist both as an unboxed value type and as an object within the object hierarchy of the type system. This dual representation allows the compiler and/or runtime environment to select the most effective and efficient representation for the data type depending on the particular need at the moment.

  • Patent number: 6484313
Abstract: The invention relates to compilation and persistence of intermediate language code. In one embodiment, a computer-implemented method first inputs intermediate language code. The method compiles this code into corresponding native code, in a non-just-in-time manner. For example, the code is compiled as an installation-type procedure, or the code is compiled in the background during free processor cycles. The method then outputs the native code. For example, the native code is persisted to a hard disk drive or a non-volatile memory. After the installation compilation process, the native code can be loaded and executed.

  • Patent number: 6389590
Abstract: Indefinite-size variables within an intermediate language are disclosed. In one embodiment, a computer-implemented method first inputs intermediate language code having a size-indefinite variable. The method generates native code based on the intermediate-language code. This includes generating a size-definite variable corresponding to the size-indefinite variable, according to a machine-specific criteria. The method then outputs the native code. In one embodiment, outputting the native code includes executing the native code.

  • Patent number: 5535323
Abstract: A method or process is disclosed for displaying help information to users of computer programs. The process is application independent and provides context sensitive help information for a particular subject selected by the user. The help information is customized to the needs of an individual user. The process also automatically provides help information for the particular subject matter selected by the user from other contexts without having the user select the other contexts or even know about the existence of the other contexts. The help information is displayed to the user without interrupting the application currently being run by the user.

  • Patent number: 5506984
Abstract: A method and apparatus for virtual data integration in a database management system, specifically for providing multidatabase query and retrieval capability, where queries are generated at a user interface and passed to one of a plurality of databases. An organization engine (OE) is coupled to the user interface and, via an organization engine/database interface for each database, to the databases. The organization engine comprises a software module that passes a MakeCallBack routine along with the user query to the OE/database interface. The query is passed on to the database. If the queried data is not found at the queried database, but rather a reference to another database is found there, then that reference is passed back with a CallBack routine to the OE. The query is then redirected to the referenced database, and repeats the procedure until the sought data is actually located.

  • Patent number: 4982525
Abstract: A collapsible lobster or crab trap is described that has a pyramidal shape with a triangular base and three triangular sides. The sides and the base are covered with a mesh material. At least one of the sides has an entrance leading to a truncated cone shaped net that acts as a passageway to further entrap the catch. The trap has a lifting means in at least one of the sides to assist the diver to remove the catch and rebait the trap by hinging one side of the trap open. There is a net support means to keep the net in an open configuration to provide an easy entry for the catch to enter the trap. The sides are hinged to the base and one of the sides has spring clips near its apex. The hinges and the spring clips allow the trap to be easily placed and secured in its operable pyramidal shape and in its stored collapsed state.

  • Patent number: 4277217
Abstract: Apparatus for transferring loads between conveyors or between a conveyor and a load handling cart, support, or other apparatus includes a split conveyor and an extensible load shifting frame disposed within the split. The shifting frame is provided with load engaging dogs which are selectively actuable above the load conveying plane of the split conveyor to shift the load therefrom and onto a conveyor, cart or the like. Frame and dog actuating means are provided as are conveying methods.

  • Patent number: 4204655
Abstract: A wide bandwidth interferometer which may be employed in a guidance system or a rolling missile delays the radar signals detected by one of the antennas by a fixed amount and the signals detected by the other antenna by a variable amount prior to their multiplication in a device which first advances the phase of one of the signals by 90.degree.. The product signal, which is proportional to the sine of the angle between the rolling axis and the line-of-sight to the target, is integrated in a limited-integrator whose output is summed with a pick-off signal from an onboard gyroscope. The sum signal determines the amount of the variable delay, while the output of the integrator controls the gyroscope to align it with the radar signal direction and the missile steering apparatus to home it on target.
