  • Patent number: 5252345
Abstract: A composition containing a zeolite and an acid suitable for use in increasing bone strength in an animal having a bone strength less than desired and/or for use in treating, preventing or delaying the onset of a bone disorder such as osteoporosis, osteochondrosis, or dyschondroplasia. A preferred zeolite is zeolite A. Preferred acids are illustrated by citric, fumaric and aspartic acids. The presence of such acids in the composition enhances the breakdown (i.e. decomposition) of the zeolite thereby making it more efficacious for increasing bone strength or combating bone disease. Preferably, the compositions contain from about 35 to about 65 weight percent of the acid; the remainder being the zeolite Such compositions can be admixed with other materials such as excipients used in the preparation of unit dosage forms.

  • Patent number: 5157186
Abstract: A process of using a catalyst composition having enhanced effectiveness in coupling an alkene with an aromatic hydrocarbon having an active hydrogen on a saturated .alpha.-carbon is accomplished with a catalyst obtained by treating an alkali metal with an alkali metal carbonate.

  • Patent number: 4950831
Abstract: An alkene is coupled with an aromatic hydrocarbon having an active hydrogen on a saturated alpha-carbon in the presence of an unsupported alkali metal as a catalyst under high shear agitation conditions. In preferred embodiments of the invention, the alkene is an alkene of 2-20 carbons, such as ethene or propene; the active hydrogen-containing aromatic hydrocarbon is an alkyl-benzene, such as toluene; the alkali metal is potassium or a potassium alloy; and the high shear agitation conditions are attained by operating a turbine-type impeller at a tip speed of at least about 5 m/sec.

  • Patent number: 4731196
Abstract: A manganese exchanged Zeolite A laundry bleach activator is made in a single reaction vessel by mixing dry Zeolite A with an inorganic acid in an amount to lower the pH to 8.0-10.5, adding and mixing in an aqueous manganese (II) salt, adding and mixing in a chelating agent such as sodium tripolyphosphate, adding and mixing in a binding agent such as carboxymethylcellulose, mixing and adding water to cause the Mn-exchanged Zeolite A, chelating agent and binder to agglomerate to form small granules and drying the resulting small granules for use as a bleach activator in laundry detergent compositions.
