  • Patent number: 7636363
Abstract: Techniques for adaptive QoS include selecting, based on one or more QoS criteria corresponding to a client, one or more given data items suitable for sending to the client in response to a query from the client. The one or more given data items are selected from a set of data items. One or more statistics are associated with the one or more data items. The one or more statistics are useable to modify which data items are included in the set of data items. The statistics may be used by removing unpopular data items, as determined by the statistics, from the set of data items in the communication system. Additionally, data items exceeding the one or more QoS criteria can be transcoded to create new data items meeting the one or more QoS criteria, and the new data items can be added to the set of data items in the communication system. Thus, the set of data items can be changed depending on current demand by users for particular data items.

  • Publication number: 20050097557
Abstract: Techniques for processing information, associated with an information source, in accordance with a browser are provided. In a first aspect of the invention, the technique includes obtaining information from the information source, and preventing a user from interacting with a displayed first portion of the received information until after a second portion of the received information is sufficiently loaded. In a second aspect of the invention, the technique includes obtaining information from the information source in accordance with an application, and preserving data provided in accordance with a user while interacting with a first portion of the application before loading a second portion of the application requested by the user.

  • Patent number: 6356297
Abstract: In this invention streaming video data is embedded within a panoramic image for display. The invention teaches a method and system for displaying an image of a scene of interest from a stored environment map of the scene and from video data of the scene. The method includes the steps of: (A) receiving and storing the video data of the scene; (B) selecting an orientation of the scene; (C) retrieving video data according to the selected orientation of the scene; (D) rendering the environment map according to the selected orientation of the scene to generate a first image for the selected orientation; (E) synchronously combining the retrieved video data and the first image to form a composite image for the selected orientation of the scene of interest; and (F) displaying the composite image. In one embodiment the method for displaying the image of the scene of interest further includes a step of continuously receiving video data packets that include image data and sound data.

  • Patent number: 5796386
Abstract: In a graphics processing and display system wherein the view point is controlled according to position and orientation of a view point reference with respect to a representation of the displayed graphics data determined by a view point reference coordinate sensing system comprising a source and a sensor, wherein the sensor has a fixed position and orientation with respect to said view point reference and the source has a fixed position and orientation with respect to the schematic representation, calibration of the system requires two ordered steps: view point reference-sensor calibration and source-representation calibration. View point reference-sensor calibration is performed by registering and processing four configurations of the sensor housing. Source-representation calibration is performed by storing and processing three positions of the sensor housing.

  • Patent number: 5764217
Abstract: A graphics processing and display system includes a coordinate sensing system for determining position and orientation of a view point reference with respect to a schematic representation of at least one three-dimensional object; a view point controller for controlling a display view point according to the determined position and orientation of the view point reference with respect to the schematic representation; and a display processor for generating pixel data representing a two-dimensional rendering of the at least one three-dimensional object according to the graphics data and display view point, wherein the two-dimensional rendering is different from the schematic representation, and wherein the pixel data generated by the display processor is output for display on a display device.
