  • Publication number: 20230339163
Abstract: An extruded integrated fastener assembly comprising a plurality of fasteners cut to length from an extruded length of material. Unwanted areas of material are cut away leaving the individual fasteners, which fasteners are also connected together by an expanse of material that remains. The fastener assembly can be single durometer or double durometer. A profile with retention members and/or leg features are formed in the fasteners for connecting to a predetermined component. The process for manufacturing the extruded integrated fastener assembly includes providing fabrication tooling suitable to cut away the unwanted area between the fasteners. The fasteners are thereby able to be cut to any desired length.

  • Patent number: 10723210
Abstract: Extruded seals including a sealing portion with a honeycomb profile and method for making extruded seals with honeycomb profiles. An extrusion tool is provided with a first and second plate connected together. The first plate has a plurality of pins, which are vented to form a honeycomb profile. The second plate has a profiled opening receiving the plurality of pins and forming the overall shape of the part, including the outermost surfaces of the part. The pins serve as mandrels for extruded molten material to flow around. Varying the pin configuration and dimensions changes the honeycomb profile. The honeycomb structure is provided in the sealing portion of the extrusion. The honeycomb profile is formed by itself, co-extruded with a rigid or semi-rigid structural member, or applied to the rigid or semi-rigid structural member after the structural member is formed.

  • Patent number: 10065353
Abstract: An upstream/downstream process for making map pocket stiffeners formed of extruded material and a wire. The extrusion is drawn through a die of a main extruder forming a main body with a channel and the extrudate is then pulled through a first cooling tank to cool the extrudate and set the profile. The wire is automatically indexed into the channel by a programmable indexing device for proper location and distance between each piece of wire. The extrudate with the wire is re-heated and then pulled through a secondary extruder to encapsulate and seal the wire within the extruded material. The extrudate is cooled in a second cooling tank and passes through a series of rollers to achieve a predetermined shape before being cut and profiled to predetermined lengths and dimensions.

  • Publication number: 20180141255
Abstract: An extruded mesh that is activatable at predetermined temperatures for expansion when desired and a method for manufacturing same. The process includes providing an extrusion tool assembly where the flow of the polymer is interrupted intermittently to allow for the gaps in the mesh in the extrudate to assist with expansion.

  • Patent number: 9914255
Abstract: Method for making multiple durometer bulb seals and any other types of multiple durometer seals and moldings includes cooling separately at least one structural member and at least one sealing portion, which have different durometers and shapes. At least a first extrusion is drawn through an extruder, forming a structural member profile and the extruded material is pulled along a longitudinal axis to a first calibrator device and first cooling tank to cool the structural member profile to a predetermined temperature. Cooling medium directly contacts the outer and inner surfaces of the first profile. Downstream, the sealing portion is extruded and affixed onto the cooled structural member and pulled further downstream to a second calibrator device and through a second cooling tank to cool the final profile a predetermined amount. Disparity in cooling expansion and cooling differential between the multiple durometers and shapes is avoided or overcome.
