Patent number: 11574240Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for generating training data for training a classifier to assign nodes of a taxonomy graph to items based on item descriptions. Each node has a label. For each item, the system identifies for that item one or more candidate paths within the taxonomy graph that are relevant to that item. The system identifies the candidate paths based on content of the item description of that item matching labels of nodes. A candidate path is a sequence of nodes starting a root node of the taxonomy graph. For each identified candidate path, the system labels the item description with the candidate path equivalently with leaf node or label of the leaf node. The labeled item descriptions compose the training data for training the classifier.Type: GrantFiled: March 19, 2019Date of Patent: February 7, 2023Assignee: YOURANSWER INTERNATIONAL PTY LTD.Inventors: Rahmon Charles Coupe, Jonathan James Schutz, Halton James Stewart, Adam James Ingerman

Publication number: 20210346810Abstract: Described herein is a system and method for sharing an AR game within a shared coordinate space created between devices with initially disjoint relative coordinate spaces. Once the shared coordinate space is created, an AR video game can provide a first mode in which the users engage in game play action that have consequences according to pre-established game rules. The AR video game can provide a second mode (“sandbox mode”) in which users engage in non-destructive game play actions that do not have consequences once the second mode has been terminated. Further described herein is a system and method of using geolocation information within an AR session in which a virtual action can be initiated by a user that causes a corresponding virtual action to be displayed on a map of a virtual environment that parallels a physical environment displayed on a user gaming device of another user.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 19, 2021Publication date: November 11, 2021Applicant: Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLCInventors: Jason Matthew CAHILL, Jesse Dylan MERRIAM, Torfi Frans OLAFSSON, Timothy James SCHUTZ, Michael Meincke PERSSON

Publication number: 20200380259Abstract: Described herein is a system and method for providing a response (e.g., responsive action of a virtual character) within an augmented reality session. Positional data information regarding at least a portion of a human skeleton is received. A real world gesture is identified based, at least in part, upon the received positional data. A response to the identified real world gesture (e.g., responsive action of the virtual character) is determined based, at least in part upon, the identified real world gesture. The determined response is caused to be performed in the augmented reality session.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 19, 2019Publication date: December 3, 2020Applicant: Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLCInventors: Jason Matthew CAHILL, Torfi Frans OLAFSSON, Jesse Dylan MERRIAM, Timothy James SCHUTZ, Craig Sean STEYN, Michael Meincke PERSSON

Publication number: 20200360816Abstract: Described herein is a system and method of generating self-portrait within augmented realty session. A first camera of a device can capture an image of user(s) in a physical environment (e.g., real-world). A depth sensor can determine a distance of the user(s) from the device. A second camera of the device can determine an orientation and/or change of orientation of the device in the physical environment. Virtual object(s) in proximity to the user(s) can be determined based, at least in part, upon the determined physical location and determined orientation of the user gaming device. Each virtual object can have an associated physical location within the physical environment. A representation of the identified virtual object(s) can then be generated and an AR self-portrait can be generated based, at least in part, the captured representation of the user in the physical environment and the generated representation of the identified virtual object(s).Type: ApplicationFiled: May 16, 2019Publication date: November 19, 2020Applicant: Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLCInventors: Jason Matthew CAHILL, Jesse Dylan MERRIAM, Torfi Frans OLAFSSON, Timothy James SCHUTZ

Patent number: 10692287Abstract: A technique is described herein for placing a virtual object within any type of modified-reality environment. The technique involves receiving the user's specification of plural values in plural stages. The plural values collectively define an object display state. The technique places the virtual object in the modified-reality environment in accordance with the object display state. Overall, the technique allows the user to place the virtual object in the modified-reality environment with high precision and low ambiguity by virtue of its guided piecemeal specification of the object display state.Type: GrantFiled: April 17, 2017Date of Patent: June 23, 2020Assignee: Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLCInventors: David Anthony Evans, Jason Bradley Scott, Jedd Chevrier, John Copic, Jonathan Gustav Paulovich, Timothy James Schutz

Patent number: 8832071Abstract: A link generator generates links to servable data to allow the servable content of a network server to be accessed using the links. Encoded links in a form suitable for an indexing agent are generated and used to access dynamically generated data in a database of the network server and to analyze same to determine query data for retrieving servable data from the database. A proxy server receives a request generated in response to selecting one of the encoded links, translates the request, and forwards it to the network server to access corresponding dynamically generated data.Type: GrantFiled: August 12, 2009Date of Patent: September 9, 2014Assignee: Youramigo LimitedInventors: Jeremy Darren Krieg, Jonathan James Schutz, Richard Simon Flay
