  • Patent number: 6839361
Abstract: A local multipoint distribution service base station apparatus for sending and receiving communication signals to and from subscribers includes a base unit having at least one rack which is adapted to receive at least one subrack. At least one communication signal generating unit is also arranged and configured to be received by the subrack. In addition, a transmitting/receiving unit is operationally connected to the base unit for transmitting and/or receiving the communication signals to and from the subscribers.

  • Publication number: 20040082330
Abstract: A method for handing off a mobile call via a packet data network uses mobile internet protocol (IP). When a mobile station (12) enters a new area, it registers with a target base station (35). When a source base station (23) determines a handoff is required, a handoff request message (101/102) is transmitted to the home agent (21) of the mobile station. The home agent then arranges for handoff between the source base station (23) and the target base station (35) via a packet data network (30).

  • Patent number: 6308080
Abstract: The invention provides methods and systems for power control in point-to-multipoint communications systems. Methods are described for both downstream and upstream control. Subscriber signals received at the base station 11 are level detected at receiver 77 and power adjust processing 79 and a control signal is sent to control output from the subscriber transmitter 65. The invention maximizes the signal-to-noise ratio and signal-to-interference ratio for subscribers (CPE) while minimizing transmitted power. The invention is ideal for use in local multipoint distribution service (LMDS) systems.

  • Patent number: 6253077
Abstract: The invention provides methods and systems for power control in point-to-multipoint communications systems. Methods are described for downstream using an off-the-air monitor 31 and pick-up antenna 33. The monitor detects the power level of the pick-up signal and a control signal sets the transmittal output from the base station in proportion to the detected composite power level.
