  • Publication number: 20140191052
Abstract: A steel rail solar radiation shield comprises a coating applied to the steel rail configured to one of block, reflect and frequency shift solar radiation from being transferred to the steel rail via particulates suspended in the coating. The applied coating is configured to be self-cleaning via at least one of additional water, carbon dioxide, heat and an additional superficial sol coating configured to shed contaminates from the applied solar radiation shield coating. A solar radiation shield retains a ballast to block and reflect the solar radiation from the steel rail and have self-cleaning properties. Heat applied to an aqueous calcium to species forms a reformed solid surface. A superficial sol coating of titanium dioxide via a photo-catalysis yields ions which chemically remove common surface debris. Furthermore, a precipitated crystalline calcium sulfate hydrate bonds to the rail and produces a reformed and cleaned surface to shield the rails from solar radiation.

  • Patent number: 8252561
Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure provide for novel strategies to harvest algal lipids using mollusks which after feeding algae from the growth medium can convert algal lipids into their biomass or excrete lipids in their pseudofeces which makes algae harvesting energy efficient and cost effective. The bioconverter, filter-feeding mollusks and their pseudofeces can be harvested and converted to biocrude using an advanced thermochemical liquefaction technology. Methods, systems, and materials are disclosed for the harvest and isolation of algal lipids from the mollusks, molluscan feces and molluscan pseudofeces.

  • Patent number: 8130195
Abstract: A method for cloning hand drawn images includes identifying, within an environment, a position of a wand with respect to each of a first plurality of user selected physical points. A virtual plane identified by the first plurality of points is defined. The virtual plane corresponds to a first marking surface. An electronic page is associated with the first virtual plane. A motion of the wand is tracked. The motion corresponds to a use of the wand to draw a first mark on the first marking surface. A path traced across the first virtual plane is identified. The path is defined by the tracked motion. The electronic page is updated to include a digital image representative of the path. The digital image is a clone of the mark.

  • Patent number: 8099895
Abstract: A trigger mechanism having a sear block engaging a striker of a firearm, a pivot drop piece supporting the sear block in an over center configuration, a toggle sear supporting the pivot drop piece and engaging a finger piece via a set of sear surfaces, the toggle sear having a toggle sear fly weight, such that when pressure is applied to the finger piece to overcome the sear surfaces friction, the finger piece releases the toggle sear, the pivot piece collapses and allows the sear block to release the cocking piece or striker, wherein during the collapsing motions, movement of the toggle sear is initially damped by kinetic resistance of the fly weight, and later, completion of the collapsing motions are assisted by inertia stored in the fly weight, providing full disengagement of the sear block from the striker.

  • Patent number: 7929002
Abstract: A method of projecting an image on a physical substrate using a virtual image and a virtual plane includes generating a virtual two dimensional plane and locating a position and orientation of a wand with respect to the virtual plane. The method further includes creating a virtual image on the virtual plane with the wand. An image can be projected on the physical substrate. The projected image corresponds to the virtual image created on the virtual plane. An associated image projection system includes a virtual two dimensional plane. A wand is configured to create a virtual image on the virtual two dimensional plane. The image projection system also has a physical substrate configured to receive a projected image. The projected image corresponds to the virtual image generated using the wand and the virtual two dimensional plane.

  • Patent number: 7925722
Abstract: A method and apparatus of discovering and installing managed appliances remotely using a protocol for communication on the network is described. The protocol permits a client workstation to issue a broadcast message on the network. The managed appliances will send a reply message to the workstation which includes their current IP configuration. If a managed appliance has not been properly configured, the workstation can remotely instruct the managed appliance to set its IP configuration as desired. In the event that the managed appliance is a KVM switch, the managed appliance can store information about the servers connected to it. This information can be requested by and reported to the workstation using the protocol.

  • Publication number: 20090135442
Abstract: A scanning device receives selection of a given tray in relation to which a copy job is to be printed. The given tray is associated with attributes of media sheets loaded thereinto, and is associated with specific printing capabilities of a printing device of which the given tray is physically a part. The given tray is selected from a group of trays including at least virtual trays. Each virtual tray corresponds to a physical tray of a printing device other than the scanning device. The scanning device receives selection of characteristics of the copy job. The characteristics are selected from a group of characteristics encompassing all characteristics supported by the given tray. The scanning devices scans media sheets loaded thereinto to yield a file. The scanning device causes the file to be printed based on the characteristics selected. The file is printed on media sheets loaded into the given tray.

  • Patent number: 7506041
Abstract: A method and apparatus for securely managing managed appliances such as keyboard/video/mouse (KVM) switches using a network communication protocol is described. A client workstation initiates a management session by establishing a secure sockets layer connection with the appliance over a predefined TCP port number. This secure management protocol is used to manage appliances that support SNMP by tunneling SNMP protocol requests through the presently-described protocol. The protocol includes a login sequence to enhance the security of data transmitted according to the protocol. The workstation can read and set object identifiers in the managed appliance. The workstation can also read and write files to and from the managed appliance. In addition, a single managed appliance can have multiple management sessions open at one time.
