  • Publication number: 20110100248
Abstract: A device for sorting railroad tie plates comprises hopper, singulator and chute assemblies mounted to a main frame capable of rolling movement along a railroad track. The device receives a plurality of tie plates from an upstream supply, e.g., a railroad gondola, and deposits the tie plates on the hopper assembly positioned above the singulator. Upon discharge from the hopper the tie plates are directed onto a central hub for guidance into a rotating track within the housing. The track width is selected so that the field and gage ends transverse the track upon the tie plates falling flat onto the track. Structure projects into the track to tip over the tie plates to a flat position during track rotation. Rotation of the track moves the tie plates towards a baffled opening for discharge from the opening. A chute assembly receives the tie plates and maintains the tie plate orientation for delivery to downstream devices, such as a conveyor belt.

  • Patent number: 7798477
Abstract: A hydraulically damped mounting device has a first anchor part; a second anchor part being a hollow sleeve containing the first anchor part, with the first anchor part extending axially of the sleeve; first and second resilient walls interconnecting the first and second anchor parts, two walls being spaced apart to define an enclosed space within the sleeve extending circumferentially around the first anchor part and axially bounded by the resilient walls. First and second deformable walls extend axially between the resilient walls at circumferentially spaced locations, so as to divide the enclosed space into first and second chambers for hydraulic fluid. A passageway interconnects the first and second chambers. The deformable walls have a flap, the movement of which is controlled by support devices so that the flap deforms to allow fluid to pass between the chambers only at or above a predetermined fluid pressure.

  • Publication number: 20100000928
Abstract: A method of operating chromatography column apparatus comprising a column tube (101) and first and second discrete end cell structures, associated with the respective ends of the column tube and positionable to close off the column tube and define therein a column space for retaining chromatography medium in use of the apparatus. The first end cell portion comprises a piston portion (106) fitting slidably in the column tube. The column tube and the second end cell structure are separated to provide an access spacing between them. The piston portion (106) of the first end cell structure is advanced through the column tube to expose it at the open second end of the column tube, for maintenance of the piston portion thus exposed. Corresponding chromatography apparatus is another aspect of the disclosure.

  • Publication number: 20090116013
Abstract: Apparatus for fabricating an array of aligned optical elements. A base tool is used to receive and align a planar material such as a glass sheet. A template tool is used to deposit secondary mirrors and adhesive patches onto the glass sheet. The adhesive patches are used to receive and mount primary mirrors. The primary mirrors are selectively held by an assembly tool. The primary mirrors are brought into alignment with the glass sheet by using actuators on the base tool and by using a registration mechanism to align the assembly tool with the glass sheet.

  • Publication number: 20080223355
Abstract: There is provided a solid fuel stove having a burn chamber including at least one side wall and a firebox. The firebox is located a distance from the side wall. The firebox generates ash while burning solid fuel. At least one baffle contacts the firebox and the side wall. An amount of ash which escapes from the firebox is directed back to the firebox and the heat generated by the firebox will be readily concentrated because of the baffle.

  • Publication number: 20080049909
Abstract: A message retrieval subsystem comprises a voice extensible mark-up language browser, a message server, and a message library. The VXML browser is configured with an application programming interface that enables a subscriber of a distributed voice messaging service to request a stored message. The message server receives a request to open a connection from a client process operative on the voice extensible mark-up language browser, spawns a thread to enable the connection, uses the thread to queue one or more subscriber requests for respective blocks of audio information, removes and processes the one or more subscriber requests, and uses the thread to forward a retrieved block of audio information to a subscriber. The message library is coupled to the message server and interposed between the message server and a common message store. The upper library isolates the VXML browser from a streaming protocol used to access the stored message.

  • Publication number: 20080031428
Abstract: A voice mail system that allows for the delivery of voice messages by chunks, thereby optimizing the delivery of the information. When a subscriber attempts to listen to his or her voice mail message, the header information for the first voice mail message is down loaded and played back to the subscriber. While the subscriber listens to the header information, the next two blocks of data of the voice message are downloaded. Upon the completion of the playback of the header information, the first two blocks of the voice mail message are available for playback and the first block is immediately available for playback. As the subscriber listens to the voice mail message subsequent blocks of the first voice mail message, and optionally header information and blocks of subsequent voice mail messages are simultaneously down loaded.

  • Publication number: 20070259778
Abstract: A flameless heating system comprising the mixture of solid state titanium boride materials with a solution of hydrogen peroxide. A small amount of solid titanium boride in the form of a tablet, powder, or thin film is added to an aqueous peroxide solution. After addition of the solid titanium boride to the aqueous peroxide solution, a significant amount of heat is released to the surroundings. As the mixture of solid titanium boride to the aqueous peroxide solution often forms a gel, the mixture provides self-regulated amounts of heat.

  • Publication number: 20070201456
Abstract: A voicemail system enabling various components of the voicemail system to be distributed geographically yet operate as a seamlessly integrated system is disclosed. A signal gateway interfaces with a telephone network. In addition, one or more media servers interface with the signal gateway as well as the telephone network. The signal gateway is configured to block calls to malfunctioning media servers. The signal gateway monitors the media servers, and responsive to determining that a media server has malfunctioned, the signal gateway initiates auto-blocking such that the telephone network does not route calls to the malfunctioning media server. In addition, the signal gateway is configured to auto-detect a media server responsive to the media server being initialized. The voicemail system can include a variety of other elements, such as one or more system management units and one or more central data and message store systems.
