    Abstract: The present invention relates to a ballast water treatment system and method. The ballast water treatment system comprises of at least one ballast tank, at least one mixing nozzle, a treatment unit, wherein the treatment unit comprises an electrochlorination module and a dechlorination module, a dosing module, wherein the dosing module is coupled to the treatment unit, and a control system. The method comprises introducing ballast water into at least one ballast tank disposed on the vessel, circulating at least a portion of the ballast water between the at least one ballast tank and a dosing module, generating a disinfectant via a treatment unit, wherein the treatment unit comprises an electrochlorination unit and a dechlorination module, and delivering the disinfectant from the treatment unit to the circulating ballast water at the dosing module.
