  • Publication number: 20140277292
Abstract: The systems and methods disclosed herein concern the modulation of autonomic function and/or biological processes. The systems and methods are useful for treating or preventing diseases, disorders, or conditions having an autonomic tone or function component. Certain embodiments relate to a system that receives signals from a biological entity to modulate the biological processes of that entity through the modulation of light or other relevant parameters. Alternative embodiments involve the use of sensors to obtain data regarding an individual and using that data to specify a lighting environment. Further embodiments involve systems that collect and transmit sensor data to a controller that designates a selected lighting environment that is useful for modulating, treating or preventing a physiological or pathological state.

  • Patent number: 7430283
Abstract: A method and a system that will allow a hearing impaired person to access a TRS (Telecommunications Relay Service) center via an Internet terminal on the World Wide Web instead of using a TTY device on the telephone network. The present invention represents a modification or add-on to the methodology and systems currently employed by TRS centers throughout the country. Therefore, a TRS center will be able to handle operator assisted relayed telephone calls both using the present POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service) and the World Wide Web. Additional equipment will be required for a center to implement the present invention, said equipment comprising a TRS Packet Server and a router connected to the internet. When a hearing impaired customer wishes to place a call, secured communication is first established over the internet with a Nationwide TRS Routing Server. The Nationwide Routing server then finds a TRS center to handle the call.

  • Publication number: 20020005686
Abstract: A heated food storage and display cabinet comprises an open fronted chamber in which packs of food can be stored, an upwardly extending enclosed air duct having a plurality of outlets over a substantial length of the duct leading from the duct to the chamber, a first flow inducing means for directing air upwardly through the duct and a second flow inducing means for producing a curtain of air which is directed across the open front of the chamber and heater means, the first flow inducing means causing the air to pass over the heater means, through the duct, through the outlets and into the chamber, the cabinet having a glazed, openable door in which at least part of the said duct is defined, the openable door enabling food packs to be placed in the cabinet other than through the open front.

  • Patent number: 5040611
Abstract: An aircraft fire protection system which includes a plurality of water spray nozzles spaced along a plurality of longitudinal conduits all cross-connected by a plurality of transverse conduits, with "choking" type flow restrictors spaced between groups of spray nozzles to limit flow following conduit rupture. Conduits are connected to the aircraft on-board water supply system via a pump and non-return valve in series and, additionally or alternately, a plurality of externally mounted self-sealing couplings are interconnected to the conduits, one of which couplings should be accessible to fire-fighting personnel for fire tender hose hookup regardless of aircraft orientation and attitude. A two-way flow restrictor includes a housing with a captured ball valve element with flutes by-passing opposing seating shoulders for the ball to provide two predetermined "choked" flow rates for normal and reverse flow modes.

  • Patent number: 4623199
Abstract: Apparatus for controlling supply of air to front brakes in an air brake system of a truck when a manually operable valve (16) is operated to inhibit flow of air to the front brakes comprises a by-pass loop (17, 17') including an electrically operable valve (19). The valve is operated when a switch (28) is closed on moving a gear selection lever (29) to a position to select reverse gear.

  • Patent number: 4462479
Abstract: Apparatus for controlling the speed of an engine of a vehicle includes a processor (26) for comparing actual speed of the engine with a reference speed and for generating output signals if the actual speed is in excess of the reference speed, the output signals controlling valves (13, 14 and 15) of an air supply system (12) to a retarder of the vehicle and being arranged to operate sequentially to control progressively magnitude of power applied to the retarder if control of the vehicle is not effected to reduce speed of the engine during sequential periods of predetermined duration.

  • Patent number: 4442915
Abstract: Apparatus for limiting the allowed movement of a vehicle, such as a dump truck, when one of its components (e.g. the tippable truck bed or skip) is positioned out of its rest position. An interlock is provided which permits the vehicle to be driven for only a short distance with this component out of its normal rest position before the brakes of the vehicle are automatically applied. Thus, in the case of a dump truck, the vehicle can be driven forwardly with the bed raised only for a relatively short distance (e.g. so as to be moved clear of the load deposited by the tipped truck bed).
