  • Patent number: 5834716
Abstract: The invention includes a mechanism for multi-dome dual detent switches having at least a first and second collapsible dome structure. An elongated action bar extends across and bridges the first and second collapsible dome members. The action bar has a top surface and a bottom surface. A notch is formed in the top surface closer to one of the dome structures. A keycap positioned for pivotal movement between a first and second forward position, and a first and second rear position. The keycap includes an engagement bar extending downwardly near one end and positioned to be received in the notch formed in the top surface of the action bar.

  • Patent number: 5819916
Abstract: The invention includes a keycap having a top surface having a first and second end, and a body portion, said keycap being pivotally connected to a support for movement of the keycap from a first to a second position. A lever extending downward from the body portion of the keycap. The lever is sandwiched between and constantly engaged by a first and second opposed dome structures. Each dome structure has a conductive material on the underside thereof and the dome structure is supported on a substrate having an open circuit. In the first position for the keycap a first dome structure is collapsed and the electrically conductive element on the undersurface of the dome engages the open circuit to close the circuit. When the keycap is moved to a second position, the keycap pivots causing the lever to move in a rotational direction collapsing the second dome structure and said first dome structure biases the lever against the second dome structure.

  • Patent number: 5719361
Abstract: The invention includes a mechanism for multi-dome switch having first, second, third and fourth collapsible dome structures. An elongated action bar extends across and bridges a pair of collapsible dome structures. The action bar, each have a top surface and a bottom surface. A notch is formed in the top surface closer to one of the dome structures. Engagement nubs extend downwardly from the bottom surface of the action bar near both ends and are positioned to be received in a respective depression formed on the top surface of the collapsible dome. A switch pedal is positioned for pivotal movement between a first and second forward positions, and a first and second backward (rear) positions.

  • Patent number: 5714732
Abstract: This invention includes a switch using two flexible domes positioned to engage the underside of a lever bar. The lever bar includes a top substantially flat surface with the exception of two spaced apart ramped nubs. A keycap is positioned over the lever bar for pivotal movement in a housing carrying the same. The keycap includes two spaced apart downwardly extending legs for engaging the top surface of the lever bar. The keycap is movable from a first position wherein the two downwardly extending legs straddle the outside of the two ramped nubs and wherein both flexible domes are fully extended and not collapsed. The elongated keycap may be depressed on a first end causing a first leg of the keycap to force the lever bar downward collapsing a first dome and closing a circuit underneath the dome. As the keycap is depressed the first leg moves over a first ramped nub and is latched in a position between the two ramped nubs. In this second position the second dome is fully extended.

  • Patent number: 5667061
Abstract: A linear cam-assisted plunger switch including a cam member having a body portion and at least three outwardly extending wedge-shaped arms. The wedge-shaped arms having a flat surface and a sloped surface formed at an angle with respect to the flat surface and converging in a direction of the flat surface. A housing base is constructed and arranged to slidably receive the cam member. A support member is connected to the base and has spaced apart electrical contacts and an electrical circuit associated therewith. A non-metallic, flexible dome is carried by said support member, and an electrically conductive element is positioned on the underside of the dome for engagement with the spaced apart contacts and closing said circuit when said dome is collapsed.
