The dart includes a central passage and an unobstructed lower passage in the tip of the dart to allow for the direct passage of working fluid. The assembly further includes an expandable seal configured to expand in diameter from the increase in pressure in the well bore. The expandable seal contacts the walls of the well bore. The expandable seal cleans the walls of the well bore and prevents leakage of working fluid between the walls and the assembly.

The body includes one or more restricted diameter sections to create a dampener effect to minimize and distribute the impact forces upon the assembly. The assembly optionally includes one or more external wear pads, and an expandable seal coupled to the body configured to expand in diameter from the increase in pressure in the well bore. The expandable seal contacts the walls as the assembly rises in the well.

The dual dart assembly is configured to connect an upper dart and a lower dart via a connecting rod. Therefore movement of one dart causes equal movement in the other dart. Movement of the dart is dampened upon impact at the top and bottom of the well by restriction of the working fluid as the dart assembly seats and unseats. A series of expandable seals are independently operated around the outer body and configured to expand and contact the outer wall in response to pressure increases within the outer body.

The assembly may further include a dart having a core member and wear coating. The dart is configured to be interchangeable within the body and without the need to disassembly the body. The wear coating compressing for insertion and being sheared off during removal the dart. The body includes an internal lip to prevent the undesired removal of the dart.

    Abstract: A rotary rock bit is provided having a lubrication system with an expansion space within the lubricant reservoir to accommodate changes in lubricant volume. A flexible diaphragm is located within the lubricant reservoir. The lubricant reservoir is filled with lubricant thereby moving the flexible diaphragm to a substantially completely filled position. A predetermined volume of lubricant is displaced from the lubricant reservoir by forcing a fluid through passage means in the reservoir cap, moving the flexible diaphragm and displacing a predetermined volume of lubricant thereby providing an expansion space within the lubricant reservoir.
