  • Patent number: 9046253
Abstract: A luminaire includes two housing halves, movable relative to each other between an open and closed configuration. The bottom housing half includes disposed therein a substrate which itself carries at least one LED which transmits light through a window in the bottom housing half. A thermal bridge made of at least one layer of anisotropic thermally conductive graphite is in thermal contact with the substrate and the top housing half when the housing is in the closed configuration, but its disengaged from either the substrate or top housing half when the housing is in the open configuration.

  • Patent number: 8963405
Abstract: A light bulb includes a light guide, light source, and housing. The light guide is configured as an open-ended hollow body surrounding an internal volume and defining a longitudinal axis. The light guide has inner and outer major surfaces. The light source is configured to edge light the light guide. The housing is at one end of the light guide. In one embodiment, fins extend from the housing adjacent the outer major surface, each fin separated from the outer major surface by an air gap to allow air flow between the fin and outer major surface. In another embodiment, a heat sink is disposed in the internal volume and configured as a hollow body with a branched cross section. Each branch extends outward from a common center and defines an air flow channel that terminates in an orifice aligned with a respective through-slot of the light guide.

  • Patent number: 8773856
Abstract: An electronic device includes an electronic component with a mating surface. A thermal interface sheet is attached to the mating surface. A substrate carries the electronic device and includes a face. The electronic component is secured to the substrate with the thermal interface sheet positioned between the mating surface and the face. The mating surface is relatively less flat than the face and the mating surface is relatively smoother than the face.

  • Patent number: 8322889
Abstract: An electronic device having enhanced heat dissipation capabilities includes an electronic device, a heat sink, a channel, a piezoelectric element, and a blade. The heat sink is in thermal communication with the electronic device. The channel includes an inlet, an outlet and a constriction disposed along the channel between the inlet and the outlet. The heat sink defines at least a portion of the channel. The blade includes a free end and an attached end. The blade is disposed in the channel and connected to the piezoelectric element. The piezoelectric element is activated to move the blade side to side in the channel to create air vortices. The constriction in the channel and the blade cooperate with one another such that a vortex that is generated as the blade moves toward a first side of the channel is compressed against the first side of the channel and expelled towards the outlet of the channel.
