  • Publication number: 20200291624
Abstract: In an exemplary embodiment, an emergency backflow preventing system is disclosed that includes an inflatable bladder, an air supply line demountably coupled to the inflatable bladder, a valve demountably coupled to the air supply line, and an air source functionally coupled to the valve. The inflatable bladder includes a deflated state and an inflated state and is substantially void of air in the deflated state. The inflatable bladder is configured to be inserted within a sewage pipe when in the deflated state. The inflatable bladder is configured to contact a bore of the sewage pipe when in the inflated state and thereby wedge itself within the sewage pipe. The inflatable bladder comprises an elastic polymer. The valve comprises a Schrader valve and an air pressure gauge. A cable is positioned within the air supply line and is anchored within the valve and the inflatable bladder.

  • Patent number: 8432281
Abstract: A method and system that creates a boundary with an alert and deterring function when the boundary is crossed. The system employs a base unit and one or more portable IR motion sensors which are capable of discriminating between objects of differing physical characteristics, and notifies the user when the parameters for sufficient obstruction have been met. Both sensors and base unit have audio and visual deterring capabilities to frighten away unwanted intruders. The method and system can be utilized in camping situations to deter dangerous wildlife and can be configured to notify users when children exit from an area. The system can be used to create a contiguous perimeter, or any boundary arrangement desired.

  • Publication number: 20110132474
Abstract: A system that prevents the backflow of fluid is disclosed. The system comprises a housing, two rubber flaps that are attached in such a way to create a one-way valve, and a water sensor. The flaps are anchored to the inside of the housing and open due to the force of fluid flowing in one direction. Fluid flowing in the opposite direction presses the ends of the flaps against each other, thus closing the valve and preventing water from backflowing through the system. A water sensor, mounted within the housing, is activated when a backflow fills the housing, thus providing an alarm to indicate a backflow event has occurred.

  • Publication number: 20070252720
Abstract: A security system and method for warning a potential intruder. One example system includes detector configured to detect the presence of a potential intruder within close proximity to the security system. At least one warning device is also configured to communicate warning signals to the potential intruder. The example system further includes a control circuit configured to cause the warning devices to automatically communicate a series of warning signals in a progressive manner to the potential intruder. Each subsequent warning signal becomes more severe than the last warning signal, and each subsequent warning signal is typically only provided if the potential intruder is detected by the detector within a predetermined time window since the communication of a previous warning signal.

  • Patent number: 5081406
Abstract: A method and system and associated circuitry for controlling and stopping the motion of dangerous moving parts such as power saw blades substantially instantaneously in response to body or human capacitance produced by an operator coming with a predetermined critical distance from the moving part. This method includes, and this system provides for, among other things, connecting an antenna to the moving part and then coupling a tunable circuit to the antenna so that the antenna provides a variable lumped capacitance parameter (dependent upon human body capacitance) within the tunable circuit. This lumped capacitance parameter is variable in response to body or human capacitance produced when an operator comes within a predetermined critical proximity to the moving part.
