  • Patent number: 5980314
Abstract: An electrical connector is adapted for mounting to a surface of a printed circuit board having a mounting hole leading to a remote surface of the board. The connector includes a dielectric housing having terminals mounted therein and including a board-mounting face. At least one mounting peg projects from the board-mounting face for insertion into the mounting hole in the printed circuit board. The mounting peg is bifurcated to define a pair of legs separated by an axial slit. The legs have arcuate board-mounting surfaces on the outside thereof. The arcuate surface of at least one of the legs is flattened to define a pair of circumferentially spaced end portions.

  • Patent number: 5934940
Abstract: A shielded electrical connector is adapted to be secured within an opening in a panel. The connector includes a dielectric housing having at least one cavity extending interiorly from a front mating face of the housing for receiving a complementary mating plug connector. A shield is stamped and formed from sheet metal material in a configuration to embrace at least a portion of the housing. The shield includes a generally planar wall insertable into the opening in the panel. A cantilevered tab is struck from the wall and has a secured end and a free end such that the free end extends from the secured end in a direction generally transverse to a direction of insertion of the connector into the panel. • Patent number: 5378172
Abstract: A low profile shielded jack is provided for mounting to a circuit board and for receiving a mating plug. The jack includes a substantially rectangular dielectric housing and a one-piece, substantially rectangular shield substantially surrounding the housing. Recesses are provided in a bottom board mounting wall of the housing at the juncture of the bottom wall with front or side walls of the housing. Supporting tabs at bottom edges of the shield extend into the recesses. The depths of the recesses are at least equal to the thicknesses of the supporting tabs so that the tabs do not project downwardly beyond the bottom board mounting wall of the housing.

  • Patent number: 5192232
Abstract: An electrical connector system includes a first connector assembly having an insulative housing defining at least one cavity with a thin male terminal extending thereinto. A second connector assembly includes an insulative housing defining at least one cavity with a spring contact terminal located therein. The thin male terminal is engageable with the spring contact terminal upon mating of the connector assemblies. The first connector assembly includes a supporting wall for supporting one side of the thin male terminal, and the wall extends only partially along the length of the male terminal to leave an unsupported distal end of the terminal. The second connector assembly includes a preloading wall against which the spring contact terminal is biased for preloading the spring contact terminal.

  • Patent number: 5131867
Abstract: An electrical connector is disclosed for mounting in an aperture in a panel or the like and includes a housing. A yieldable anti-vibration arm projects from the housing for engaging the panel when the connector is mounted in the aperture in the panel to prevent vibration between the connector and the panel. A recess is formed in the anti-vibration arm at a location to relieve stress in the arm during yielding thereof.

  • Patent number: 5125851
Abstract: A collapsible insulation displacement terminal is disclosed for terminating an insulated wire having an electrical conductor with a sheath of insulation thereabout. The terminal includes at least one terminal wall portion deflectable for displacing the insulation and for engagement with the conductor upon application of a force on the terminal in a direction generally parallel to the longitudinal axis of the insulated wire. The first terminal wall portion includes a blade portion deformable therefrom generally parallel to the axis of the insulated wire to present a substantial area of contact with the conductor of the wire. A second terminal wall portion is deflectable upon application of the axial force into engagement with the blade portion of the first terminal wall portion to insure contact between the electrical conductor and the first terminal wall portion.

  • Patent number: 4955816
Abstract: An electrical connector system includes self-terminating pin and socket terminals which have forward mating ends and identical rearward wire receiving ends. The wire receiving ends are mountable in a modular rear housing. The modular rear housing is mateable with either a front plug housing or a front receptacle housing. The terminals can be mass terminated by inserting a plurality of wires into the modular rear housing and by axially advancing the modular rear housing toward the front housing component of the system. The housing components can be readily separated from one another for repair or replacement of terminals. Selected connectors may be lockingly mountable to panels and may be lockingly mateable with one another.

  • Patent number: 4826440
Abstract: An I.C. chip carrier and header assembly is provided. The assembly comprises a generally rectangular shrouded header with pins force fit therein. The pins are connectable to conductive traces on a printed circuit. A protective tape may be disposed over the header to control the locations at which conformal coatings may be applied, and thereby avoid extensive cleaning operations. The assembly further comprises a carrier with receptacles for receiving box-type double female carrier terminals. The I.C. chip is mountable in the carrier with the leads thereof being connectable to the carrier terminals by soldering. A cover is locked into engagement with the carrier to define a plugable subassembly. The subassembly is then urged into lockable but removable engagement with the header and the pins thereof.

  • Patent number: 4418976
Abstract: A connector clip 12 is shown having a "U" shaped body member 30 including a base 34 and two parallel, extending legs 32. The ends of each of the legs 32 define camming surfaces 42 and a socket retaining notch 44. The clip includes a pair of first spacing feet 47 positioned medially upon each leg 32 and a pair of second spacing feet 36 located at the ends of a base member 34. The feet 36, 47 serve to limit relative movement between the clip 12 and a plug 14 which holds the clip 12 to a circuit board 22. A pair of spaced fingers 48 together with the circuit board 22 and the facing surfaces of the legs 32 define an access opening which serves to align the socket 24 with a plug 14. The second embodiment of FIGS. 5 and 6 includes a pair of arms 50 which engage the circuit board 22 surface opposite the surface upon which the plug 14 is mounted. The arms 50 prevent relative movement between the clip 12 and the circuit board 22.
