  • Patent number: 10813191
Abstract: A method of rearing chickens comprises providing a chicken shed (10) having a floor area (12) over which the chickens can move freely. The shed (10) is provided with a plurality of lights (18) arranged to illuminate respective different regions of the floor area (12) so that, collectively, the lights (18) are able to illuminate substantially all of the floor area (12). The shed (10) is provided a plurality of cameras (20) arranged to view respective different regions of the floor area (12) so that, collectively, the cameras (20) are able to view substantially all of the floor area (12). Chickens are provided in the livestock shed (10) on the floor area (12). A controller (22) is provided and is operatively connected to the lights (18) and to the cameras (20). The controller (22) receives and analyses signals, such as images, from the cameras (20).

  • Patent number: 9486040
Abstract: A zipper has a slider moveable in an opening direction to open the zipper and in a closing direction to close the zipper. The slider comprises a control member and a casing, the control member being moveable between a locking position in which movement of the slider in the opening direction is prevented and an unlocking position in which movement of the slider in the opening direction is allowed. When the control member is in the locking position the casing at least partially encloses the control member so as to substantially prevent the application of a contact force tending to move the control member from the locking position to the unlocking position. The control member is at least partly formed of a material to which a magnetic force is applied by a permanent magnet in proximity.

  • Patent number: 9273496
Abstract: An anti-theft device, for securing an electronic product during retail display, having a socket for the transmission of power and/or information during normal operation, and a plug for engagement with the socket. The plug has an insertable portion, for insertion into the socket, with a lock to prevent removal while locked. The insertable portion also has a release enabling for withdrawal of the insertable portion. The plug has a control mechanism for holding the lock when the plug is engaged with the socket, the lock can be changed from a locking to release configuration by operation of a security key. The device also includes a flexible attachment for attaching the plug to a fixture. In one case the insertable portion includes a pin with an expandable tip for locking the pin to the socket. The flexible attachment may include conductive wires and be joined to an additional electric connector.

  • Publication number: 20140157839
Abstract: An anti-theft device for securing an electronic product during retail display. The product has a socket adapted for the transmission of power and/or information during normal operation. The device includes a plug for engagement with the socket. The plug has an insertable portion, for insertion into the socket. The insertable portion has a lock which locks to the socket to prevent removal while the insertable portion is locked. The insertable portion also has a release enabling for withdrawal of the insertable portion from the socket. The plug has a control mechanism for holding the lock such that when the plug is engaged with the socket, the lock can be changed from a locking to release configuration substantially only by operation of the control mechanism by a security key. The device also includes a flexible attachment for attaching the plug to a fixture.

  • Publication number: 20050214471
Abstract: The present invention describes a method for producing a large area two-dimensional nanoscale network on the surface of a substrate. The network is formed by depositing a sub-mono-layer of molecule A onto the surface of the substrate followed by a different molecule B. The formation of the network relies on the hetero-molecular hydrogen bonding between molecules A and B to be stronger than the homo-molecular hydrogen bonding. By appropriate choice of molecules A and B, together with the substrate, it is possible to manipulate and control the structure, dimensions and chemical functionality of the network. The pores of the network can act as containment vessels for other molecules and be made sufficiently large to accommodate several large molecules or atomic/molecular clusters or particles.

  • Patent number: 5656917
Abstract: A battery identification system (100) includes a battery (104), a device (102), and an apparatus (106). The battery (104) is of a particular type (e.g., NiCd, NiMH, Lithium Ion) and is detachably coupled to the device (102). The device (102) includes a controller (112) that determines the type of the battery (104) and generates a number of signals according to the type. The apparatus (106) is detachably coupled to the device (102) and includes a current source (164) and a controller (162) that detects the number of signals. The controller (162), responsive to the controller (112), controls the current source (164) to initially provide charging current at a first rate to the battery (104) until reception of a first one of the number of signals. The controller (162) thereafter identifies the type of the battery (104) from the detection of additional ones of the number of signals.
