  • Patent number: 9168990
Abstract: In various embodiments a variable buoyancy profiling float is disclosed. The variable buoyancy profiling float may comprise a spherical glass housing comprising a first hemisphere and a second hemisphere. The first and second hemispheres may be coupled by a partial vacuum within the spherical glass housing. A buoyancy system may be located at least partially within the spherical glass housing. The buoyancy system may be configured to provide variable buoyancy control to the variable buoyancy profiling float. A sensor bundle may be mounted to the spherical glass housing and may be configured to measure at least one environmental parameter.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 1, 2014
Date of Patent: October 27, 2015
    Assignee: Teledyne Instruments, Inc.
Inventors: Douglas C. Webb, Mark Belcher, Lawrence Bovie, Robert Correllus, Andrew Elskamp, Hugh E. Fargher, Thomas Patterson, Ernest Petzrick, David Pingal, Daniel Ryan, Andrew Sealey, Clyde Streeter, James Truman, William Wallace, Steven Arruda, Robert G. Melvin, II, Thomas W. Altshuler

  • Publication number: 20070227579
Abstract: A solar cell arrangement comprising a solar cell assembly having cylindrical solar units arranged parallel or approximately parallel to each other in a common plane. A first and a second cylindrical solar unit in the plurality of solar cell units are separated from each other by a spacer distance thereby allowing direct sunlight to pass between the cylindrical solar units. Each cylindrical solar unit in the plurality of solar units is at least a separation distance away from an installation surface.

  • Publication number: 20070017567
Abstract: Systems and materials to improve photovoltaic cell efficiency by implementing a self-cleaning function on photovoltaic cells and on albedo surfaces associated with photovoltaic cell assemblies are provided. Materials for protecting albedo surfaces that surround photovoltaic cell assemblies, thereby maximizing energy input into the photovoltaic cell assemblies, are provided. Materials for self-cleaning photovoltaic cell panels, thereby maintaining their efficiency, are provided. Portable albedo collecting devices associated with photovoltaic cell assemblies are provided.

  • Publication number: 20060179676
Abstract: A drying apparatus for drying articles such as clothing is provided. The drying apparatus includes a chamber for containing articles to be dried and a system for supplying heated dry air at a first temperature to the chamber. The air supplying system comprises an air flow pathway having an evaporator for removing moisture from air exiting the chamber and for decreasing the temperature of the air to below dew point temperature. The air supply system further has a condenser for increasing the temperature of the air exiting the evaporator to the first temperature. The drying apparatus further has a heat pump system having a refrigerant loop which includes a compressor, the condenser, a TEV valve, and the evaporator.
