    Abstract: Apparatus and method for reducing display clutter and improving the readability of a display by enhancing the display of a selected item or class of items while at the same time de-emphasizing the non-selected items or classes of items. The enhancement of a selected item or class of items may be accomplished in a number of ways, including, but not limited to enhancing the size, color, or other characteristic of the item, including the addition of textual information associated with the selected item. Likewise, the non-selected item(s) may be de-emphasized in a number of ways including, but not limited to decreasing the size thereof, changing the color thereof, increasing the transparency thereof, or otherwise modifying the item to make recognition and use of the selected item easier.
