  • Patent number: 9140233
Abstract: A wind turbine blade forming a root at an inner end, a tip at an outer end, a plurality of power sections intermediate the root and the tip, and a plurality of aerodynamic section dividers located intermediate each of the other sections. The aerodynamic section dividers are configured to aerodynamically isolate their adjoining sections to limit the lateral flow of air between them while in use on the wind turbine. The blade has a low aspect ratio and is operated at a high advance rate. The aerodynamic section dividers are close enough together to soften the stall characteristics of the blade, and thus the blade can be operated at high angles of attack.

  • Patent number: 4609840
Abstract: A baffle for improving coolant gas flow distribution in the gap region of a gas cooled dynamoelectric comprises a perforate member defining at least one gas flow path therethrough. The baffle preferably is spaced from the arcuately surrounds the rotor of the generator, wherein the gas flow path provides communication between the end space region and gap region of the generator. The member may define a plurality of gas flow paths disposed in a predetermined array. Gas exiting the gas flow paths may be directed from substantially parallel to the axis of rotation of the generator to an outwardly radial angle of about 30.degree. with respect to the axis of rotation. The size, spacing and disposition of the gas flow paths are coordinated with circumferential gas flow paths around the baffle to provide rapidly radially diffused coolant gas flow downstream the baffle, thus ensuring adequate coolant gas flow to stator core coolant ducts of the generator.

  • Patent number: 4519669
Abstract: A braid clamp for generator shaft voltage and current pickup employs a compound lever for forcibly locking clamping faces of a compound action clamping block into firm contact with a portion of a metallic braid. The metallic braid is thereby secured with a portion thereof in trailing contact with a surface of the generator shaft. Provision is made for holding a substantial free end of the metallic braid ready for use but secure from accidental contact with adjacent objects. The free end may be employed for contact with the shaft by reversing the braid or may serve as a supply of braid which may be fed between the clamping faces. The compound lever is quickly openable and closeable to reduce any risk to workers servicing the metallic braid in close proximity to the rapidly rotating generator shaft.
