  • Patent number: 6054921
Abstract: An alarmed roll shutter assembly includes a frame, a shutter that moves along the frame from a closed position to an open position, a pressure actuated sensor disposed in close proximity to the shutter and an alarm that detects actuation of the pressure actuated sensor to sound an alarm and/or turn on lights. The pressure actuated sensor may be disposed between the frame and the shutter when the shutter is in a closed position and is mounted to detect pressure caused by the shutter being forced against the frame at high pressure, such as pressure caused by placing a crowbar or other tool between the shutter and the frame and prying the shutter and frame apart.

  • Patent number: 6021837
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a rolling protective shutter having improved shutter tracks. The improved shutter tracks according to the present invention include an improved stopping mechanism that prevents the shutter from completely rolling up onto the shutter support member, provides for adjustment of the position where the shutter will stop as the shutter is rolled up onto the shutter support member, and is hidden within the shutter tracks. The improved shutter tracks according to the present invention further include an improved cover assembly for use in concealing angle brackets and the associated attachment hardware when a shutter track is angle mounted to a wall or jamb. The cover assembly completely encloses the angle bracket to give the shutter track and, consequently, the rolling protective shutter a finished appearance after installation.

  • Patent number: 5996669
Abstract: A rolling shutter assembly having a shutter support member and a shutter coupled to the shutter support member. The shutter has a plurality of individual slats and a plurality of hinges interconnecting the slats. Each of the slats has a pair of end portions, and the slats include a first set of slats and a second set of slats, each of the slats in the first and second sets being alternated so that each of the hinges is connected to one of the slats in the first set and one of the slats in the second set. The shutter further includes a plurality of extension members extending from the slats and/or the hinges. The shutter assembly has a pair of shutter tracks and means for rolling the shutter from an extended position in which the end portions of the slats are disposed in the shutter tracks to a retracted position in which the shutter is rolled up on the shutter support member.

  • Patent number: 5983971
Abstract: A burglar- and weather-resistant cover for an opening such as a door or window. The cover includes a pair of opposed and generally parallel tracks with an upper housing extending therebetween. A plurality of louvers are generally parallel and connected to the upper housing by a first cable in a manner that allows the first cable to be coiled, and to a pair of second cables which engage the louvers in a manner that spaces the louvers at regular intervals. The cover further includes a pair of locking members, with each locking member coupled to one of the tracks an movable between a first position and a second position. The locking members are adapted to automatically move from the first to the second position when the louvers are deployed from a retracted position to a deployed position.

  • Patent number: 5975185
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a modular roll-up partition assembly, such as a rolling protective shutter, implementing an improved mechanism for raising the partition in an emergency by disengaging a motor from a rolling shutter. The mechanism includes a cable that passes through an axial passage in a spring shaft to which a torsion spring is mounted. When the cable is pulled, the coupling mechanism is separated from the motor drive shaft, thereby disengaging the spring shaft from the motor drive shaft and permitting the torsion spring to quickly raise the rolling shutter.

  • Patent number: 5938136
Abstract: A recoiler for rolling shutter assemblies that includes a protective cover that reduces the risk of accidentally releasing the strap and, consequently, the shutter curtain. The protective cover is disposed over the locking mechanism to prevent the inadvertent unlocking of the mechanism either by intentionally forcing the mechanism to the unlocked position or the accidentally engaging the mechanism with another object. Additionally, the recoiler facilitates adjustment of the tension in the torsion spring of the take-up roll without the necessity of removing the take-up roll assembly from the strap recoiler housing. The recoiler provides access to the shaft so that a torque may be applied to rotate the shaft to increase and/or decrease the tension in the torsion spring.
