  • Publication number: 20120049675
Abstract: A differential comprises a differential case and electrical generator. The electrical generator comprises a first portion that is supported by the differential case and a second portion that is disposed in the differential case. The electrical generator is responsive to rotation of the differential case for generating electrical power. In another embodiment, the differential may further comprise a differential gear set, and the electrical generator comprises a first portion that is supported by the differential gear set and a second portion that is disposed in the differential case in accordance with an embodiment of the invention. The electrical generator is responsive to movement of the differential gear set for generating electrical power. In another embodiment, an axle assembly includes a differential case and axle housing that together function as an electrical generator. The rotation of the differential case generates electrical power.

  • Publication number: 20070294881
Abstract: A method for manufacturing a planar sensor, comprises disposing a film of a material on a substrate, wherein the material is selected from the group consisting of platinum, rhodium, palladium and mixtures and alloys comprising at least one of the foregoing materials; annealing the material; measuring a resistance value of the material; laser trimming the annealed material; heat treating the laser trimmed material; and laser trimming the heat treated material to form the sensor.

  • Publication number: 20060162704
Abstract: A low-resistance hydrocarbon-adsorptive cartridge for an air intake of an internal combustion engine comprising a structure for being mounted into a portion of an engine air intake system. The structure is adapted to orient and retain one or more thin sheets of activated carbon sheeting in the intake system. Preferably, a plurality of sheets is oriented such that the leading edge of each sheet is presented to the engine intake air stream, thereby minimizing reduction in total cross-sectional area of the intake system. Preferably, the one or more sheets are spaced apart by a distance that is small relative to the extent of the elements in the direction of engine air flow such that a high probability is created that hydrocarbons migrating out of a shut down engine's intake manifold will encounter a surface of at least one of the adsorptive sheets and thus be adsorbed.
