  • Patent number: 6991590
Abstract: A weight plate for fitness weightlifting that provides an ergonomic gripping device is described. The ergonomic weight plate comprises a disc-shaped member having a center through-hole for positioning the weight plate onto a barbell. The disc-shaped member further comprises at least one ergonomic gripping cutout located around the periphery of the disc-shaped member. The gripping cutouts are adapted to receive human fingers to facilitate lifting of the weight plate. The ergonomic gripping cutouts each have an outer periphery and an inner periphery. A portion of the outer periphery of the cutouts is convex to properly conform the gripping cutout to the shape of a human hand. In a second embodiment the gripping cutout has a grip enhancement strip located on the inner surface of the outer periphery of the gripping cutouts.

  • Publication number: 20050245369
Abstract: The selector weight plate includes a weight, preferably made from a metal, and a elastometric cover that completely encases the weight, which is designed to be used on standard stationary selector weightlifting machines. The weight is equipped with a central vertical aperture, for receiving the center post of the weighting machine, and two offset vertical apertures for receiving the guide rails provided on the weightlifting machine. The weight also has a pair horizontal apertures used to receive a selector pin that locks a series of selector weight plates in place. The elastometric cover is included through the vertical apertures and is provided to help prevent the deterioration of the metal weight and to help prevent loud noises that occur when successive weight plates strike one another during the course of a exercise routine.
