    Abstract: A treatment fluid composition for treating a subterranean formation penetrated by a well bore is formed from an aqueous fluid, a hydratable polymer and an inorganic peroxide breaking agent, which is classified as a stable, non-oxidizer according to UN standards but which retains oxidizing properties as measured by the content of available oxygen. A method of treating a subterranean formation penetrated by a well bore may also be performed by forming a treatment fluid from an aqueous hydrated polymer solution. This is combined with a stable, inorganic peroxide breaking agent. The treating fluid is then introduced into the formation. An optional crosslinking agent capable of crosslinking the polymer may also be included.

    Abstract: The invention provides concentrates for reducing the fluid loss on an oil base well drilling or servicing fluid, the concentrates comprising an oleagineous liquid and (1) a polymer which is solublized in the oleagineous liquid, or (2) a polymer which is solublized in the oleaginous liquid together with an organophilic polyphenolic material which is solublized and/or dispersed in the oleagineous liquid. The method of preparing the concentrate and the method of reducing the fluid loss of an oil base well drilling or servicing fluid utilizing the concentrates is also disclosed. The preferred oil soluble polymer is a styrene-butadiene rubber crumb. The preferred oleagineous liquid is an aromatic-free hydrogenated oil essentially containing only saturated hydrocarbons. The preferred polyphenolic material is a source of humic acid, such as mined lignite.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a hydrocarbon-based concentrate composition for crosslinking polysaccharide polymers in an aqueous-based fluid, such as a fracturing fluid, wherein the hydrocarbon-based composition has no or substantially no detectable levels of benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and/or m-, o-, or p-xylenes (BTEX). Preferred polysaccharide polymers are galactomannan gums or derivatives thereof. The concentrate comprises an oleaginous solution, such as a hydrocarbon distillate, a crosslinking agent for crosslinking the polysaccharide polymer, preferably a sparingly soluble alkali metal or alkali metal alkaline earth metal borate, and a stabilizing/suspension agent, preferably a clay mineral selected from the group consisting of smectite clays.     Abstract: The invention discloses a compounded hydrocarbon oil which comprises a base hydrocarbon oil, preferably a mixture of paraffinic hydrocarbons, propylene carbonate, and a liquid fatty acid containing at least 12 carbon atoms per molecule, preferably tall oil fatty acid. The volume ratio of propylene carbonate to liquid fatty acid is from about 3.5 to 1 to about 7 to 1. Preferably the concentration of propylene carbonate is from about 0.002 gal/gal oil to about 0.0057 gal/gal oil and the concentration of the liquid fatty acid is from about 0.0003 gal/gal oil to about 0.0015 gal/gal oil. The invention further comprises a method of compounding the compounded hydrocarbon oil and an oil base drilling fluid prepared from the compounded hydrocarbon oil. Preferably the compounded hydrocarbon oil is characterized by an increase in the low shear rate viscosity of the oil of at least 5,000 centipoise or mixing 7.5 lb/bbl of an organoclay therein.

    Abstract: A fluid pressure transmission pill (FPTP) having an ultra-high viscosity for use in association with hydrocarbon drilling and exploration operations, particularly, managed pressure drilling (MPD) operations, is described. The ultra-high viscosity pill is a weighted pill composition that includes a hydrocarbon fluid, a thixotropic viscosifying agent, one or more activators, an emulsifier/wetting agent, a fluid loss control additive, and a weighting material. In accordance with selected aspects of the described fluid pressure transmission pill, the ratio of the amount of the thixotropic viscosifying agent to the activator is a ratio of about 7:1, and the weighting material is a barium-containing solid-phase material. Also described are methods of use of such FPTP products in subterranean operations, such as well killing operations during managed pressure drilling.

    Abstract: Processes for the rapid and efficient drying of boron-containing compounds, in particular boron-containing minerals and ores, are described, as well as the products which result from such processes. The process comprises the steps of providing a boron-containing material; introducing the boron-containing material into a pre-heated furnace; heating the boron-containing material in the furnace at a temperature between about 800° F. and 1000° F.; retaining the boron-containing material within the furnace for a time ranging from about 5 minutes to about 120 minutes; and removing the boron-containing material from the furnace and allowing it to cool to ambient temperature. Optionally, the process may also comprise one or more steps of grinding and/or sizing the boron-containing material to a specific particle size prior to the introduction of the material to a furnace.

No. 4,619,776, which is effective in crosslinking aqueous solutions of a water soluble, borate-crosslinkable polymer, preferably guar gum and derivatives thereof. The aqueous suspension/concentrate comprises a saturated aqueous solution of a sparingly soluble borate, a suspension agent, suspended particles of a sparingly soluble borate, and optionally a stabilizing agent, wherein the saturated solution of the sparingly soluble borate is prepared prior to the particles of the sparingly soluble borate being suspended therein. The preferred suspension agent is a palygorskite clay such as attapulgite and sepiolite. The invention further provides a method of hydraulically fracturing a formation with the aqueous borate suspension/concentrate.

    Abstract: The invention provides solids-free, viscous fluids (pills) for use in various well workover and completion operations including as displacement spacer pills, standard fluid loss control pills, post gravel pack in-screen pills, perforation sealing, and the like. The pills comprise a viscous solution of a polyethylene glycol having a molecular weight of 1,000 to 8,000,000 in an aqueous liquid comprising a solution of one or more soluble bromide salts having a density sufficient to provide the desired hydrostatic pressure at the location of use of the fluid in a well. The minimum concentration of the polyethylene glycol in the pill varies with the average molecular weight as follows: MW=1,000 to 10,000=100 ppb; MW=10,001 to 100,000=75 ppb; MW=100,001 to 250,000=50 ppb; MW=250,001 to 500,000=10 ppb; MW=500,001 to 8,000,000=5 ppb.

    Abstract: Disclosed are invert oil emulsion drilling fluids in which the internal aqueous phase contains one or more water soluble polyethylene glycols dissolved therein. The fluids are characterized by an elevated low shear rate viscosity, hence excellent suspension properties, an elevated Shear Thinning Index, hence excellent drilling characteristics, and a high shale stability index, hence excellent cuttings stabilization and formation protection. Preferred polyethyleneglycols have a molecular weight from about 500 to about 10,000, preferably from about 1000 to about 10,000. Preferred fluids contain from about 5% to about 40% by weight of the polyethyleneglycol in the aqueous phase, most preferably from about 10% to about 30% by weight. Also disclosed is a method of enhancing the thermal stability of invert emulsion well drilling and servicing fluids which comprises dissolving in the aqueous phase thereof one or more polyethyleneglycols.
