  • Patent number: 4468903
Abstract: A building panel of wood composite material includes inner and outer faces outlined by opposite ends and upper and lower edges. The panels are adapted to be placed end-to-end in courses or rows arranged in parallel to extend upwardly from a lower edge or eave to cover a building wall or roof structure. Each panel includes an outer face having a lower portion of substantial surface area adapted for exposure to the weather and an upper portion of relatively smaller surface adapted to underlie one or more panels in a next higher course laid in overlapping relation therewith. A large lower portion of the outer face is formed with a surface embossed to resemble a plurality of individual shingle elements positioned in side-by-side relation. Grooves are formed in the outer face of the panel between adjacent shingle elements and each groove tapers from a minimum depth adjacent the upper portion of the outer face to a maximum or greater depth adjacent the lower edge of the panel.

  • Patent number: 4468909
Abstract: A building panel having inner and outer faces outlined by opposite ends and an upper and lower edges has opposite ends adapted to closely face the end of an adjacent panel in the same course. The outer face of the panel includes a lower segment of substantially greater surface area adapted for exposure and an upper portion of relatively smaller surface area adapted to underlie a lower portion of one or more panels in a next higher course laid in overlapping relation therewith. One of the ends of said panel includes an overlap end segment adapted to overlie an underlying end segment at the other end of an adjacent panel laid up end to end in the same course to form a ship lap end joint between the panels. The overlap end segment includes a marginal end portion of the outer face with an underside therebelow formed to slope from a minimum panel thickness adjacent the upper edge toward a maximum panel thickness adjacent the lower edge.

  • Patent number: 4464872
Abstract: A building panel of composite wood materials adapted to cover intersecting surfaces on opposite sides of an apex at the hip or ridge of a roof or corner of a building includes a substantially flat back face and an irregular outer weather face resulting in variations in panel thickness at different positions on the panel face. The panel is provided with a V-shaped groove formed in the back face and extending along an axis adapted to overlie the apex of intersection on application of the panel on a building and also includes a V-shaped groove formed in the irregular outer weather face directly opposite the V-groove in the back face defining therebetween a panel web of substantially constant thickness between the apexes of the grooves that is less than the average nominal thickness of the panel between the faces. These grooves facilitate the bending of half portions of the panel on opposite sides of the grooves to fit against intersecting surfaces on a building roof or wall corner.

  • Patent number: 4422266
Abstract: A building panel having inner and outer faces on a body outlined by opposite ends and by upper and lower edges with opposite ends of the panel adapted to closely face the end of an adjacent panel in the same course or row. The outer face of the panel includes a lower portion of substantially larger surface area adapted for weather exposure and an upper portion of relatively smaller surface area adapted to underlie a lower portion of the back face of one or more panels positioned in a next higher course. A flashing element is mounted on the outer face of the panel for precise pivotal movement between a first position wherein the element lies entirely within the outline of the panel body and a second position wherein the element extends outwardly beyond the body of the panel for flashing a joint between adjacent panels.

  • Patent number: 4169748
Abstract: A consolidated man-made board, such as hardboard, is "post-press" embossed with a contoured embossing plate at a pressure of at least about 1000 psi, at a temperature in the range of about 400.degree.-550.degree. F. and for a period of time sufficient to permanently re-shape the surface of the consolidated board.

  • Patent number: 4073672
Abstract: A consolidated man-made board, such as hardboard, is wetted on one surface with a chemical, such as ammonium hydroxide, and thereafter embossed with a contoured embossing plate at a pressure of at least about 1000 p.s.i., at a temperature in the range of about 400.degree.-550.degree. F. and for a period of time sufficient to permanently reshape the surface of the consolidated board. The use of chemical wetting agents including ammonium hydroxide, mineral acids including hydrochloric, sulfuric, nitric and phosphoric acids, oxalic acid, and metheneamine is disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4015392
Abstract: An integral siding/roofing building wall panel system comprising panels having an elongated rectangular base of structural sheet material having opposite inner and outer faces and longitudinal upper and lower edges dimensioned to span across at least one pair of spaced apart upwardly extending parallel structural supports of a building frame such as studs, rafters and the like, opposite ends of the base are adapted to lie along the structural supports, and an outer weather member of sheet material is integrally attached to the outer face of the base, said outer member having a decorative outer weather resistant surface embossed to resemble a plurality of shingle elements laid side by side and having an upper edge spaced downwardly and parallel of the upper edge of the base and sloping upwardly of the outwardly facing surface of the base at an acute angle for interlocking engagement with the lower edge of the base of a building wall panel in an adjacent upper level or row, said outer weather member including a
