  • Patent number: 5494134
Abstract: A coolant system is disclosed for use with a machine tool in which coolant is used to both cool and lubricate a workpiece and cutting tool. The system of the present invention utilizes a positive displacement pump with one or more spray nozzles each having a restricted orifice whereby the coolant is sprayed from the nozzles at a relatively high velocity and pressure enabling the coolant to be precisely directed to the cutting location to provide optimum cooling and lubricating of the workpiece and cutting tool. Check valves are provided for both the pump inlet and outlet lines to maintain the pump in a primed condition and prevent drainage of coolant from the coolant system when the pump is not operating.

  • Patent number: 5077876
Abstract: An improved spindle assembly for a single or a multiple spindle machine is disclosed. An outer tubular member is mounted for rotation by the spindle machine. An inner shaft is positioned within the tubular member and a collet is movable between a locked and an unlocked position. A workpiece can be removed from the unlocked collet by high pressure liquid from the inner shaft. In one embodiment the inner shaft is rotated independently from the tubular member and is also axially reciprocable. A tool mounted on the inner shaft provides for interior machining at the same time as an exterior operation is being performed. In another embodiment the collet remains axially stationary.

  • Patent number: 5076123
Abstract: A single spindle drive apparatus for a conventional single or multiple spindle machine derives power directly from the main machine drive and provides increased operating speed. The drive apparatus includes at least one pair of speed change gears and a splined input shaft engaged by a complemental internally splined gear which is driven by the main idler drive gear on the machine. A chuck or collect or other tool holding device may be coupled to the output shaft. Tool speeds can readily be increased for between 2 and 5 times the machine drive speed. The apparatus includes mounting components which facilitate mounting upon the end tool slide of the machine.
