  • Patent number: 4467590
Abstract: A hydraulically driven drive reversing mechanism, attachable to a combine to reverse the drive to the header and feeder house components, is disclosed wherein the reversing mechanism is contained within a gearbox detachably connected with the header drive shaft. The reversing mechanism is substantially self-contained within the gearbox and connectable to a source of hydraulic power to provide an optional drive reversing capability for substantially any combine. The reversing mechanism includes a first gear splined onto the header drive shaft for rotation therewith, a second free wheeling gear mounted within the gearbox in an intermeshing relationship with the first gear for rotation therewith and a clutch selectively engageable with the second gear to transfer rotational power from a hydraulic motor to affect a rotation of the header drive shaft in a reverse direction.

  • Patent number: 4372103
Abstract: A crop harvesting header drive mechanism is disclosed wherein a toothed drive belt transfers rotational power from a drive sprocket to a driven sprocket, both of which have indentations around the perimeter thereof to correspond to and engage with the drive belt teeth to provide a positive driving action. Shielding is provided for the return run of the drive belt, wherein the teeth are projecting upwardly, to prevent dirt and/or debris from filling up the interstitial spaces between adjacent drive teeth and disrupting the positive drive relationship between the drive belt and the drive and driven sprockets. The shielding mechanism is pivotally attached at its rearward end to permit the forward end to be vertically movable with the driven sprocket. A detachable L-shaped member is provided to close off a gap formed in the shielding for access to the drive belt.

  • Patent number: 4327544
Abstract: A combine having a header on the forward end of it which operates to cut and deliver crop material to an elevator in a feeder house over which a cab is provided at an elevated location. The elevator delivers the material to the threshing mechanism of the combine. The engine of the combine is connected by a belt drive to a vari-drive supported by the feeder house and a yoke on the vari-drive moves one flange of the adjustable sheave of the vari-drive relative to the other. An auxiliary motor actuates the yoke by driving a rotatable screw and a Bowden cable is connected between a pivoted speed-indicating needle on a dial mounted in view of the cab and the follower of the yoke which is actuated by the screw which is operated to move the yoke to change the adjustable sheave and vary the speed of operation of the combine.

  • Patent number: 4266391
Abstract: A header attachment mechanism for a combine is disclosed wherein a front face member is rotatably attached to the forward end of the feeder house for movement in a fore-and-aft direction and a cradle assembly is pivotally attached to the front face member for rotation generally about the line of travel in a substantially transversely extending plane. By connecting the header to this attachment mechanism, the header can be both adjusted to laterally float relative to the contour of the ground and adjusted to change the cutting angle of the header cutting means relative to the ground through manipulation of the rotation of the cradle assembly and front face member respectively.

  • Patent number: 4266392
Abstract: A mechanism for selectively adjusting the cutting angle of a combine header relative to the ground is disclosed wherein a front face member is pivotably mounted to the forward end of the feeder house for rotation about the forward transverse axis of the crop conveyor within the feeder house. Structure is provided to adjustably lock the front face member into one of a plurality of alternative rotated positions. With the disclosed mechanism, the header cutting angle can be adjusted relative to the ground without increasing the distance between the header and the crop conveyor, thereby maintaining the efficiency of the crop conveyor to engage crop material and transport it rearwardly.

  • Patent number: 3971390
Abstract: The stone trap of the present invention is used in cooperation with the crop elevator of a threshing and separating machine. The crop elevator has an opening positioned in its bottom wall along the path of the incoming crop material. A pivotally mounted door is positioned above the opening. A lip is rigidly mounted around the periphery of the opening and extends below the crop elevator. This lip maintains the door in a closed position until the door has moved through a predetermined distance. The movement of the door is determined by the operation of a controlling means mounted to both the door and the crop elevator and a force exerting means operably associated with the controlling means.
