  • Patent number: 5246494
Abstract: (1) A mixed coupled azo pigment prepared from:(A) 30% to 70% of two or more diazonium components, at least one derived from a monoaryl amine and(B) an organic coupling component, said pigment containing one or more COOH or SO H groups or esters, amides, alkali metal or alkali earth metal salts thereof or(2) A mixed coupled azo pigment prepared from:(A) 5% to 95% of two or more bis, tris or tetrakis diazonium components, at least one derived from a monoaryl amine and meeting certain specific critria and(B) an organic coupling component, said pigment comprising the same acid or salt groups of pigment (1).

  • Patent number: 4202702
Abstract: An inorganic pigment is disclosed comprising a solid solution of a solvent spinel containing a solute of a differing spinel, characterized in that the solvent spinel is lithium based and has a highly ordered structure. The solvent spinel is that lithium-based varient of the cubic spinel phase having a uniform cubic ordering of metal cations about at least the tetrahedral or the octahedral sites of symmetry in the spinel lattice. The ordering of the metal cations with respect to either the tetrahedral or octahedral sites, and preferably both, is in ionic ratios of whole numbers and comprises two different metal ions of differing charges.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 26, 1978
Date of Patent: May 13, 1980
    Assignee: Ferro Corporation
    Inventor: James W. Nuss
  • Patent number: 4159207
Abstract: A double phase pigment is disclosed including a first phase of a lattice of zinc sulfide, and a second phase of a lattice of zinc oxide serving as a host for manganese oxide in solid solution. The pigment may be prepared by reacting zinc oxide and manganese sulfide in an inert atmosphere at elevated temperatures.

  • Patent number: 4075029
Abstract: An inorganic pigment and its process of manufacture are disclosed, characterized in that the pigment, in contrast to substitution of one or more metal ions into a given spinel crystal structure, is a solid solution comprising at least a double spinel structure, that is, a first cubic spinel crystal structure containing within such lattice the spinel-forming metal oxides of at least a second, differing spinel. As a result, the present inorganic multiple spinel solid solution pigments can be varied over a wide range of compositional make-up and yet, conversely, easily adjust to even slight compositional changes by varying the amounts or components of the first spinel and/or the spinel-forming metal oxides. The resulting pigments correspondingly can produce a wide range of colors and are yet capable of even small nuances of changes in color.
