    Abstract: A stub shaft comprising a hollow shaft having a pair of resilient rubber gripping rings mounted thereon. Each resilient gripping ring is mounted between a chuck and a pressure plate. Pressure bars hold the pressure plates in spaced but operative relationship to each other. One of the chucks is slidable on the shaft and a thrust cone is provided to apply pressure to the slidable chuck. This applies pressure to both resilient gripping rings to compress the rings and allow them to expand so as to grip the inner surface of a paper roll core.
