  • Patent number: 5022584
Abstract: A rail fastener for fastening rails to a support structure, particularly adapted for use in switches, crossovers, frogs and the like where a track plate must support a pair of closely spaced or nonparallel rails. The rail fastening includes a rigid track plate to which the rail is adjacent and two fastener pads laterally spaced on the track plate and disposed between the track plate and the support structure. Each fastener pad has a rigid member and a resilient member bonded together and two pins to join the elastomeric member to the track plate.

  • Patent number: 4733855
Abstract: This invention relates to spring block elements of the type comprising layers of rubber affixed to end and intermediate plates, and according to this invention the layers of rubber are uniformly tapered in one direction to reduce buckling effect. Two such spring block elements may be horizontally positioned in a compression spring unit between a stationary beam and corresponding pivot arms which are vertically spaced from the stationary beam.

  • Patent number: 4416203
Abstract: A laminated mount for a railway vehicle suspension system is provided in which a body of elastomer is disposed between a top and bottom plate, and is divided into a plurality of individual layers by shims embedded at spaced intervals therewithin. Pins extend between the undercarriage of the vehicle and a bearing plate which is embedded between two layers of elastomer such that at least one layer of elastomer is disposed between the bearing plate and the bottom plate. The pins extend through selected layers of elastomer and effectively prevent them from deflecting in shear in response to lateral and/or longitudinal movements of the vehicle. This enables the mount herein to be designed with the combination of a relatively stiff shear spring rate to provide stability of the vehicle, and a soft compression spring rate to provide flexibility in response to vertical movements of the vehicle for wheel load equalization.

  • Patent number: 4326670
Abstract: A laterally adjustable rail clip fastening means is provided by the present invention for securing a resilient rail clip such as a Pandrol clip to a direct fixation rail mounting assembly, and, in turn, into engagement with a rail. The rail clip fastening means includes a pair of sections formed of rigid material having a curved section at one end to receive and securely hold a resilient rail clip in engagement with a rail. The sections of rigid material are laterally moveable along the top plate of the rail mounting assembly and include cam locking means to independently lock such sections into position against the rail for preventing lateral movement thereof in cooperation with the resilient rail clips.

  • Patent number: 4325510
Abstract: A laterally adjustable rail clip fastening means is provided by the present invention for securing a resilient rail clip such as a Pandrol clip to a direct fixation rail mounting assembly, and, in turn, into engagement with a rail. The rail clip fastening means includes a pair of sections of rigid material formed with a curved portion at one end which receive and securely hold a resilient rail clip in engagement with the rail. Each of the sections are engageable with a disc means rotatably disposed within the top plate of the rail mounting assembly on opposite sides of the rail. The disc means are rotatable to move the sections laterally along the top plate, and include locking means to independently lock such sections into a position against the rail for preventing lateral movement thereof in cooperation with the resilient rail clips.

  • Patent number: 3965825
Abstract: A unitary resilient elastomeric pad is positioned between the bearing adapter and side frame of a railway truck. The truck side frame includes downwardly depending pedestal jaws spaced fore and aft of a bearing carried by the axle and defines longitudinally a semi-cylindrical load carrying surface between the jaws. Transversely, the load carrying surface is chevron shaped. A bearing adapter is carried by the bearing and defines a load receiving surface in opposed relation to the load carrying surface for matingly receiving same. The elastomeric pad is disposed in compression load carrying relation between the load carrying and load receiving surfaces and conforms to and bears against these surfaces.
