    Abstract: An apparatus for radially quenching melt spun filaments features a quenching chamber having a foraminous distribution cylinder between the filaments and the gas supply chamber with areas of porosity that increases, from a first low value at a location immediately below the spinneret, through a larger value at lower location, and then decreases toward the exit of the quench chamber.
