    Abstract: A self-aligning stuffing box having a spherical joint between the upper and lower portions of the housing permits universal movement of the upper portion relative to the lower portion to permit a rod to pass through the bore if the axis of the rod is misaligned relative to the axis of the bore in each of the upper and lower housing portions. An energized seal in the upper housing resides at or below the spherical joint due to a downwardly depending central portion of the upper housing which extends into a recess formed in the lower housing permitting the height of the stuffing box to be relatively short. A second seal is positioned above the first seal and may be spaced sufficiently above the first seal to permit a flapper valve to be installed between the seals. The flapper valve is mounted through a port in the upper housing which is accessible without disassembly of the stuffing box, the seals or the wellhead.

    Abstract: A stabilizer is provided for stabilizing a rotary or progressive cavity pump suspended from production tubing in well casing. The stabilizer is connected between the production tubing and the pump. The stabilizer has a tubular body having a cylindrical wall and a longitudinal bore contiguous with the production tubing. A releasable sliding dog is disposed on the exterior of the tubular body and is operatively connected by a link to one or more pistons. Each piston is disposed in a piston housing that is in fluid communication with the bore of the tubular body. Circumferentially spaced-apart feet extend radially outwardly from the tubular body. In operation, actuating fluid pressure advances the pistons uphole, driving the sliding dog up one or more longitudinal outwardly extending ramps to brace against the casing, with the feet contacting the casing and bearing opposing reactive force.

    Abstract: A powered track assembly (20) is provided for allowing selective forward and rearward adjustment of a seat assembly (10) along an interior floor of an automotive vehicle. The upper track (24) is fixedly secured to a bottom portion of the seat assembly (10). A rigid shaft (32) having a generally continuous helical thread (38) is rotatably supported by the upper track (24). A plurality of nuts (40) is threadingly engaged with the shaft (32). A cage (42) having a plurality of compartments (58) is fixedly secured to the lower track (22). Each compartment (58) supports one nut (40) to allow relative rotational movement of the rigid shaft (32) relative to the nuts (40). The nuts (40) are allowed a predetermined amount of movement within the respective compartments (58) to prevent binding between the nuts (40) and the rigid shaft (32) due to relative lateral or vertical movement between the upper and lower tracks.

    Abstract: A method of controlling an engine is provided. At least one operating parameter of the engine is sensed. The engine is operated in a first mode in response to the sensed operating parameter being at one of a predetermined first set of conditions. In the first mode, a cam assembly moves an intake valve from a first position when a piston starts an intake stroke and the cam assembly returns the intake valve to the first position when the piston completes the intake stroke. The engine is operated in a second mode in response to the sensed operating parameter being at one of a predetermined second set of conditions. In the second mode, the cam assembly moves the intake valve from the first position when the piston starts an intake stroke and an actuator prevents the intake valve from returning to the first position in response to the cam assembly.

    Abstract: A frameless switched reluctance motor (SRM) has a stator sandwiched between two housings. Axial load on the rotor shaft is directed through a first bearing, through the first housing to the stator and through the second housing to a motor support. Heat is dissipated using low-loss electrical steel, one or more air movers and air passages through the motor. Preferably a stator profile enables the air passages to be formed through the stator's lamination stack. Optionally air is routed through passages between the coils and through air passages along the air gap and radially through passages between an upper and a lower stator. A first self aligning bearing adapts to misalignment between the first housing and the shaft and a second bearing is provided with transverse movement. Preferably, the frameless motor is adapted for support to a wellhead for driving a downhole rotary pump and a rotary rod string.

    Abstract: A tensioning tool for connection with a tubing hanger and tubing string suspended from the tubing hanger retained in a dognut by a hanger retainer. Preferably the hanger retainer is temporarily engaged to the top of the tensioning pup for release therefrom once a lower end of the tubing has been fixed by a tubing anchor and the tubing has been lifted a tensioning distance. The hanger retainer is then engaged with the tubing hanger for suspending the tensioned tubing from the dognut locked in the wellhead. The dognut and the hanger retainer have co-operating locking faces which prevent rotation of the hanger retainer in the dognut once the locking faces are mated which assists in maintaining torque applied to the tubing string which may have been applied to rotationally set the tubing anchor. More preferably, the tensioning pup has a series of gradations marked on the pup for measuring the amount of tension applied to the tubing string.
