Publication number: 20110255996Abstract: A valve system for controlling a flow of a fluid is provided that includes a port including a valve seat, and a ball adapted to cooperate with the valve seat to seal the port. The valve system also includes an arrangement for magnetically positioning the ball on the valve seat. A method for operating a pump is provided that includes releasing a piston causing the piston to return to an unactuated position to increase the interior volume forcing fluid in a reservoir to move into the piston body through a port due to a pressure differential between the interior volume and the reservoir. The method also includes sealing the port with a ball after the piston returns to an unactuated position and the pressure differential falls below a threshold by magnetically attracting the ball to a valve seat of the port.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 19, 2011Publication date: October 20, 2011Inventors: JAMES WICKSTEAD, MICHAEL H. Publication number: 20020142734Abstract: Mobile, wireless communications apparatus for transmitting and receiving voice and data signals and being divided into first and second units arranged to be spaced apart but normally operated within a close range and each having a low power transceiver for communication between the first and second unit over a low power radio link. The first unit has a more powerful transmitter and an antenna for receiving and transmitting signals to a remote location, typically through a base station forming part of a cellular network. The second unit is significantly smaller than the first unit and incorporates miniaturized elements including a display, key pad, microphone speaker and micro controller, together with the aforementioned low power transceiver. The battery supply in the second unit is significantly smaller than that provided in the first unit, the second unit being designed to be a size of the order of a conventional wrist watch and being capable of being worn on the wrist of a user.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 3, 2001Publication date: October 3, 2002Inventor: James Wickstead

Publication number: 20010038337Abstract: A smoke detector which may be hard wired or battery operated and having circuitry for providing an audio/visual alarm upon detecting smoke. A radio frequency, infrared or other form of detector detects a signal from a remote RF, infrared or other compatible transmitter. The activation of the transmitter operating button transmits an appropriate signal to the compatible receiver which initiates a timer for disabling the audio/visual alarm signal generated by the smoke detector for a predetermined time interval which may be adjustable, if desired. Recognition that the circuitry has detected the transmitted signal is by way of flashing an LED or other illuminating device thereby providing an indication that the time-out request signal from the transmitter has been received and acknowledged. The smoke detector automatically turns back on when the time-out period has elapsed.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 4, 2001Publication date: November 8, 2001Inventors: James Wickstead, Curtis L. Stillwell

Patent number: 4877954Abstract: An apparatus for counting hangers having a convex surface includes a housing having a central light source carried by the housing for projecting a light beam on the convex surface. A pair of spaced light detectors is positioned on the housing substantially on opposed sides of the central light source, the spaced light detectors detect light reflected from the convex surface. A detecting circuit is connected to the pair of spaced light detectors and detects the sequence of reflected light beams, and then determines whether the detected sequence is a sequence of reflected light beams characteristic of the relative displacement of the housing and the convex surface when the housing or the convex surface is displaced in substantially the direction of the space between the pair of opposed light detectors.Type: GrantFiled: September 22, 1986Date of Patent: October 31, 1989Assignee: Arnold I.
