Publication number: 20080081304Abstract: A flare burner that is particularly suitable for use in connection with ground flares and other types of flares in which it is important to control the height of the flame envelope created by the burner is provided. The flare burner includes a pre-mix zone including a pre-mix chamber into which air is entrained. A uniform mixture of fuel and air is formed in the pre-mix zone and caused to exit an air/fuel outlet in the top of the pre-mix chamber. In one embodiment, the amount of air in the fuel/air mixture that exits the air/fuel outlet is in excess of the stoichiometric amount of air required to support combustion of the fuel in the mixture. Fuel is injected around the perimeter of the air/fuel outlet, combustion is initiated and a flame envelope is created. By injecting a mixture of fuel and air that includes excess air into the center of the flame envelope, combustion of the central portion of the flame envelope is accelerated which allows more fuel to be flared with a given flame envelope height.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 29, 2006Publication date: April 3, 2008Inventors: Roger L. Poe, James Wilkins, Jeff W. White

Publication number: 20070224564Abstract: A flare apparatus for burning combustible gases. A flare tip unit comprises an inner member and an outer member defining an annulus therebetween. The annulus defines an annular gas passage through which combustible gas passes. Air moved by a motive force, preferably steam, passes through the inner member and a steam/air mixture exits an outlet of the inner member. The combustible gas and an air/steam mixture mixes in a premix zone between the inner member outlet and the exit opening of the outer member. The combustible gas/air/steam mixture is ignited for burning in the atmosphere above the exit opening. The flare apparatus may include a plurality of flare tip units.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 27, 2006Publication date: September 27, 2007Inventors: Jianhui Hong, James Wilkins, Jeff White, Roger Poe

Patent number: 7041503Abstract: Compositions and methods are provided for the clinical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of multiple sclerosis. The compositions of the invention are molecules related to the 21.5 kDa fetal isoform of human myelin basic protein, and include nucleic acids and polypeptides. The nucleic acid molecules of the invention are useful in the efficient production of modified and unmodified 21.5 kDa myelin basic protein polypeptides, such polypeptides being useful for assaying T cells for responsiveness to myelin basic protein epitopes. The polypeptides of the invention are also useful as therapeutic agents that act by inducing T cell responses, including apoptosis, as a means of treating multiple sclerosis.Type: GrantFiled: May 2, 1995Date of Patent: May 9, 2006Assignees: The United States of America as represented by the Department of Health and Human Services, Alexion Pharmaceuticals, Inc.Inventors: Steven H. Publication number: 20050145382Abstract: A liner hanger having a mechanical coupling between a liner hanger body and one or more cones is disclosed. The cones are coupled to the liner hanger body to resist axial and relative rotational movement without welding the cones to the hanger body, and without the need to use integral cones. In general, the mechanical coupling includes a hanger body or casing mandrel, a cone assembly journaled on the casing mandrel, at least one slot or groove in an outer wall of the casing mandrel, and at least one partially or fully annular slot on the inside surface of the cone assembly oriented to correspond with the groove(s) in the outer wall of the hanger body. At least one wire, or one or more bearings, is situated in the corresponding slot and the groove. The wire engages the flanks of the slot and groove sufficiently to resist axial or rotational movement of the cones relative to the hanger body.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 7, 2005Publication date: July 7, 2005Inventors: Jozeph Marcin, James Wilkin
