Patent number: 8087612Abstract: A support structure for an aircraft seat includes load bearing spaced side members, each having elements for securing a seat for continuous movement between first and second positions, and a ground engaging portion. The structure further includes a stiffening web extending between the side members. The side members and the stiffening web substantially define a hollow box section of at least four sides to stiffen the side members, at least in the regions beneath the element securing the seat. The support structure allows other material than the conventional steel or aluminum constructions to be used for the support frame. For example, substantially all off the structural strength of the support may be provided by fiber reinforced composite materials.Type: GrantFiled: December 2, 2005Date of Patent: January 3, 2012Assignee: James Park Associates LimitedInventor: James William Park

Patent number: 6375119Abstract: A seat for, for example, an aircraft that has an open outer shell which embraces a seat portion, a seat back, a head rest and a foot rest when the seat is in an upright position. Also embraced by the shell are a pair of arm rests. The seat is reclinable into a bed configuration such that the seat portion is moved forwardly out of the open end of the shell. Simultaneously, the arm rests are movable between the raised position and the position substantially flush with the seat portion. In the bed configuration, the removal of the arm rests from the raised position significantly increases the width of the bed, thus enhancing the comfort of the user.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 2000Date of Patent: April 23, 2002Assignee: Singapore Airlines, Ltd.Inventors: James William Park, Philip Haith
