  • Patent number: 5970493
Abstract: A record management system is provided for generating a multi-dimensional view for different measures. A set of records is retrieved in response to a set of queries. The records include dimension values and measure values, which are associated with the measures. The set of records is maintained in a master table. The record management system generates a record structure foundation, including a query map and a master table index. The record management system then employs the record structure foundation to generate a multi-dimensional layout mapping for the measures that are to be represented in the view. The record structure foundation and measure values in the master table are used to convert the layout mapping into the desired multi-dimensional view. The record management system includes data storage units for implementing the master table, query map, master table index, and layout mapping.

  • Patent number: 5838321
Abstract: A user interface with embedded or linked objects is enclosed. In one embodiment, the invention comprises a computer program, operating with a GUI and capable of linking or embedding an object from an application program into the GUI. The program includes instructions for determining a size of the object, instructions for determining whether the object is in an active mode, instructions for providing a first frame size of a container if the object is not in the active mode, and instructions for providing a second frame size if the object is in the active mode. The frame can simply represent the size of the container or an actual border around the container. The computer program also provides a first client window that is responsive to whether or not the object is active. Furthermore, the computer program adjusts the location of the object on the display when the object is in the active mode, provides space for controls of the objects server application, and provides appropriate pop-up menus for the object.

  • Patent number: 4682958
Abstract: A data entry terminal for storing a plurality of user generated answers is described which includes a removable volatile read/write memory module. The memory module is used to store formatting information used to configure the data entry terminal as appropriate for a particular set of questions. The memory module can for example store a set of correct answers as well as a set of user answers for each of the questions of the test, and it can store data used to disable certain functions of the data entry terminal, such as the ability of a user to revise an initially entered answer. The data entry terminal operates to record user answers in the portable memory module, which can then be removed from the data entry terminal and applied as an input to an external computer for analyzing user responses. The portable memory module includes a battery for powering a volatile semiconductor memory included in the module.
