  • Publication number: 20150299670
Abstract: Four genetic traits have been identified that increase furfural tolerance in microorganisms, such as ethanol-producing Escherichia coli LY180 (strain W derivative). Increased expression of fucO, ucpA or pntAB, and deletion of yqhD were associated with the increase in furfural tolerance. Microorganisms engineered for resistance to furfural were also more resistant to the mixture of inhibitors in hemicellulose hydrolysates, confirming the importance of furfural as an inhibitory component. The combinations of genetic traits disclosed in this application can be applied, generally, to other microorganisms, such as Gram negative and Gram positive bacterial cells, yeast and fungi to increase furfural tolerance in microorganisms used to make industrially useful products.

  • Publication number: 20100097330
Abstract: One disclosed feature of the embodiments is a method and apparatus to provide a touch screen. First and second layers having inner surfaces coated with indium tin oxide (ITO) are formed. The coated surfaces have a first refractive index. A cavity is formed by the first and second layers and a sealant that seals perimeter of the first and second layers. A fluid is filled in the cavity. The fluid has a second refractive index.

  • Patent number: 5479328
Abstract: A backlight comprising a serpentine fluorescent tube nested in a uniquely shaped reflector. Much of the light emitted from the tube is directly emitted to a bounded image plane. The reflector reflects a substantial portion of the rest of the light emitted by the tube to the image plane in such a manner that a very bright and uniform image is formed at the image plane.

  • Patent number: 4975691
Abstract: A thin-film electroluminescent display panel system has a plurality of vertical column electrodes driven by column driver circuits and a plurality of horizontal row electrodes driven by row driver circuits. The system includes a row driver control circuit that enables the row drivers in a first sequence during a first display frame so that write voltage pulses are applied to the row electrodes in order from the top to the bottom of the display panel. The row driver control circuit enables the row drivers in a second sequence during a second display frame so that the write voltages are applied to the row electrodes in the reverse order from the bottom of the display panel to the top of the display panel.

  • Patent number: 4315259
Abstract: A system for operating a memory display panel comprising a gas-filled envelope having an array of D.C. gas discharge cells and an array of quasi A.C. gas discharge cells, there being one A.C. cell for each D.C. cell. The A.C. cells are the display cells of the panel and include electrode means which receive sustainer signals for sustaining glow therein, and the D.C. cells are operated in a scanning fashion to address selected A.C. cells in which glow is to be displayed. The system includes electronic circuitry for performing the above-mentioned operations of driving the D.C. cells, generating sustaining signals for the A.C. cells, and energizing the A.C. cells in accordance with input data information. Appropriate timing control circuits are also provided.

  • Patent number: 4236154
Abstract: The disclosure is of a display panel which includes an array of scanning cells having scan anodes and scan cathodes, the anodes being connected to a source of electrical potential, and the scan cathodes being connected in groups, each group being connected to a driver. The driver comprises a plurality of integrated circuits connectible to provide different numbers of outputs, each of which is connected to one of the groups of cathodes. Means are provided for automatically connecting the cathodes in the desired number of groups and to connect the driver to provide the desired number of outputs.

  • Patent number: 4109180
Abstract: An AC-powered display system includes a gas discharge display panel, an integrated circuit, and a limiting network. The integrated circuit is provided as the display pattern controller. The limiting network, in response to an excessive voltage across the controller, reduces the current through the system. The reduction in system current causes the voltage across the integrated circuit to be regulated.

  • Patent number: 4086516
Abstract: The disclosure is of a system for driving gas-filled segment-type display panels including a plurality of groups of cathode electrodes, each having an anode electrode. The circuit includes means for holding the anodes at a relatively low potential for a short period of time after drive signals are applied thereto and to selected cathode electrodes. During this period of time, current flow charges a capacitor and raises the potential of the anodes to a potential at which ionization and cathode glow can occur. The circuit includes transistors utilized as resistors to hold off cathodes which are not intended to glow.
