The tip wall may include an inner surface defining an inner perimeter of the tip wall. Moreover, a plurality of notches may be defined by the inner surface around at least a portion of the inner perimeter.

Yet further included is a non-circular cooling channel defined by the turbine airfoil and extending radially from the root to the tip, the non-circular cooling channel routing a cooling air to an outlet hole formed in the tip. Also included is an exhaust hole defined by the turbine airfoil and extending from the non-circular cooling channel to the suction side wall, the exhaust hole radially located between the root and the tip.

    Abstract: An airfoil includes a squealer tip at an outer radial end of the airfoil. A squealer tip pocket of the squealer tip has a convex side and a concave side, and a tip plate. A divider extends across the tip plate from the concave side to the convex side to divide the squealer tip pocket into a first pocket and a second pocket. At least one cooling passage through the tip plate in the second pocket provides fluid communication through the tip plate from an interior of the airfoil to the second pocket. The first pocket is fluidically disconnected from the interior of the airfoil.

A plurality of cooling passages through the tip plate provide fluid communication through the tip plate to the plurality of pockets. Laser energy discharged from the terminating end surface of the optical fiber is transmitted through the transmissive portion. The spacer portion defines a distal terminating end of the fiber tip that is spaced a predetermined distance from the terminating end surface of the optical fiber. The predetermined distance is set for shock wave generation for calculus destruction at the distal terminating end of the fiber tip.

The methods include forming at least one layer of a first portion of the environmental barrier coating system on at least a first region of the component, performing a first heat treatment, forming at least one layer of a second portion of the environmental barrier coating system on a second region of the component, and performing a second heat treatment to the component. Edges of the first portion and edges of the second portion form an angle of at most 60° with respect to a surface of the first region of the component. During the second heat treatment, the second portion of the EBC system expands and the expansion of the second portion of the EBC system is at least partially constrained by the first portion of the EBC system to reduce tensile interfacial stresses in the EBC system.

    Abstract: A rotor blade includes and airfoil. The airfoil includes pressure and suction side walls which extend radially outwardly from a platform in span from a root to a tip and between a leading edge and a trialing edge. The tip includes a tip floor, a plurality of coolant outlets and a tip rail having a pressure side and suction side portions that extend radially outwardly from the tip floor. Cooling passages are circumscribed within the airfoil and are in fluid communication with one or more of the coolant outlets. A baffle extends radially outwardly from and transversely across the tip floor from the pressure side portion to the suction side portion to define first and second tip pockets. A slot is disposed along the suction side portion of the tip rail to provide for fluid communication out of one of the first or second tip pockets, thereby reducing pressure within the corresponding tip pocket.
