Publication number: 20210220540Abstract: A device and method are described for the treatment of blood, which device may be used in conjunction with or in place of a failed Kidney. The device includes an ultrafiltration unit to remove proteins, red and white blood cells and other high molecular weight components, a nanofiltration unit to remove glucose, at least one electrodeionization unit to transport ions from the blood stream, and a reverse osmosis unit to modulate the flow of water, to both the blood and urine streams. In one embodiment, a specialized electrodeionization unit is provided having multiple chambers defining multiple dilute fluid channels, each channel filled with an ion specific resin wafer, and electrodes at the extremity of the device and proximate each of the resin filled dilute channels. By selective application of voltages to these electrodes, the ion transport functionality of a given dilute channel can be turned on or off.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 5, 2021Publication date: July 22, 2021Inventors: Jamie Allen HESTEKIN, Christa Noel HESTEKIN, Grace Ann C. MORRISON, Sadia Ali PARACHA

Patent number: 8613967Abstract: The invention provides a stable concentrated dairy liquid, such as concentrated milk, with improved flavor, color, and mouthfeel, and a method of production thereof. The method utilizes specific thermal treatments to produce the stable concentrated dairy liquid to which a stabilizer and mouthfeel enhancer are added. The resulting products have a sterilization value Fo of at least 5 that is also resistant to gelling and browning during high temperature sterilization and is also resistant to gelling and browning during storage for greater than six months. The method balances such thermal treatments with addition of stabilizer and enhancer to achieve the desired flavor/mouthfeel and sterilization and to achieve reduced level of soluble protein in the concentrated milk prior to concentration to resist gelation and minimize browning. Moreover, such processing may be utilized in a milk that is concentrated to a factor of 2.7 fold or higher and contains at least 8.5 percent protein.Type: GrantFiled: August 2, 2012Date of Patent: December 24, 2013Assignee: Intercontinental Great Brands LLCInventors: Kenneth William Cale, George W. Haas, Jamie Allen Hestekin, Heather Marie Hudson, Ted Riley Lindstrom, Yinqing Ma, Fu-I Mei, Danielle Elizabeth Perkins, Charles Wang

Patent number: 7863546Abstract: A beverage preparation machine is provided that is arranged and configured to dispense infant formula or children's beverages from a liquid concentrate with a consistent temperature in a receiving receptacle. In one form, the beverage preparation machine operates to provide a beverage in a receiving receptacle consistently and reliably at or near a predetermined final temperature based on the beverage type, such as formula or children's beverage, and independent of environmental conditions.Type: GrantFiled: December 27, 2006Date of Patent: January 4, 2011Assignee: Kraft Foods Global Brands LLCInventors: Jamie Allen Hestekin, Kathryn Marie Baker, Chad David Galer, Colin Patrick Crowley, Gerald Olean Fountain

Publication number: 20080160134Abstract: A method is provided for forming aseptic or substantially aseptic concentrated dairy liquid, such as dairy milk, without significant heat treatment. In one form, the method first concentrates a starting dairy milk to about 2× to about 7× concentration using an ultrafiltration membrane to form a dairy concentrate. Thereafter, the dairy concentrate is filtered using a microfiltration membrane to provide the aseptic or substantially aseptic concentrated dairy milk. The resultant concentrated dairy milk has less than about 0.5 percent total bacteria and less than about 5 colony forming units of spore forming bacteria per gram. The substantially aseptic concentrated dairy milk is not subjected to significant heat treatment during processing.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 27, 2006Publication date: July 3, 2008Inventors: Jamie Allen Hestekin, Chad David Galer
