  • Publication number: 20100252757
Abstract: A magnetic actuator (1) comprising a stationary part (3), a movable part (4) and a coil (10) arranged circumferentially relatively to the movable part (4) in such a manner that the movable part (4) is moved relatively to the stationary part (3) in response to a magnetic field induced when an electrical current runs in the coil (10). The stationary part (3) and the movable part (4) are shaped in such a manner that one is provided with a protruding part (5) and the other is provided with a recess (6) adapted to receive the protruding part (5). Thereby the minimum distance between the stationary part (3) and the movable part (4) are kept relatively low, and it is thereby possible to obtain a large pulling force without increasing manufacturing costs. The actuator (1) further comprises a shading ring (7) providing a magnetic field having a phase which is different from the phase of the field induced by the coil (10).

  • Patent number: 7058451
Abstract: In a method and apparatus for determining the depleted capacity of a CFx type battery used in an implantable medical device, average values of battery voltage and battery current drawn from the battery are measured during a measurement time, the length of which exceeds a battery voltage recovery time after a load change, and wherein the actual depleted capacity of the battery is determined by predetermined relations between combinations of the average values of voltage and current and depleted battery capacity.

  • Patent number: 6748273
Abstract: In a method and an apparatus for detecting the status of a battery in an implantable heart stimulator, the battery impedances measured and an increased value of the measured impedance is detected, from which an impedance based value of the remaining battery capacity is determined. The increase in impedance is analyzed to determine whether the impedance increase is a reliable indicator of the remaining battery capacity. If it is determined that the impedance increase is not reliable for determining the battery capacity, the total charge depletion of the battery is measured and a charge depletion-based value of the remaining battery capacity is determined.

  • Publication number: 20030149455
Abstract: A method of detecting the status of the battery of an implantable heart stimulator comprises the steps of measuring the impedance of the battery, detecting an increased value of the measured impedance, determining an impedance based value of the remaining capacity of the battery from the detected impedance increase, combined with the steps of measuring the total charge depleted from the battery, and determining a charge depletion based value of the remaining capacity of the battery. A battery status detecting circuit for an implantable heart stimulator includes a first measurement means (12) for measuring the impedance of the battery (6), a detection means (14) for detecting an increased value of the measured impedance, a first determination means (16) for determining an impedance based value of the remaining capacity of the battery from the detected impedance increase.

  • Patent number: 6553260
Abstract: A medical implant such as a heart stimulator has a detector which detects an extracorporeally generated interrogation signal for at least one predetermined working parameter of the medical implant. The interrogation signal is generated by an interrogation signal device capable of only unidirectional communication to the medical implant. The implant includes a response signal generator which generates an extracorporeal detectable response signal, detectable, for example, by a stethoscope, which indicates only if the interrogated working parameter has a satisfactory value or a non-satisfactory value.

  • Patent number: 5370666
Abstract: A pacemaker contains at least one power-consuming component, such as a sensor with associated electronic circuitry for controlling the pacemaker function or a heart signal detector, and an electrode system for emitting heart stimulation pulses. The power-consuming component is disenabled prior to implantation of the pacemaker. Circuitry is provided for enabling the power-consuming component which is responsive to an event occurring substantially simultaneously with pacemaker implantation in the patient. Such circuitry may include a device for measuring the electrode impedance so as to enable the power-consuming component in response to the measured impedance value. The circuitry for enabling the power-consuming component can alternatively includes internal telemetry equipment in the pacemaker and external telemetry equipment for communications between the telemetry equipments.
