  • Publication number: 20080311377
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for producing a polyolefin foam having a higher temperature resistance and comprising a polypropylene and/or polyethylene, which process comprises first mixing and melting one or more polyolefins having a melting range, measured by means of differential scanning calorimetry at a heating rate of 10° C./min, within the range of 95 to 170° C. and optionally other polyolefins and/or additives so as to form a homogeneous mixture having a melt temperature within the range of 120 to 160° C., melting said homogeneous mixture in an extruder, mixing said molten mixture with a physical foaming agent and subsequently cooling said mixture so that the molten mixture transfers from the liquid phase into a semi-crystalline phase, and expanding the cooled mixture into a foam. The invention further relates to an insulation foam produced with said process.

  • Publication number: 20030232898
Abstract: The present invention relates to pipe insulation made from a polyolefin thermal insulation foam which is made by extruding, using a physical blowing agent, a foam composition comprising 77-99% by weight of a metallocene polyethylene, 5-18% by weight of a flame extinguisher, 3-8% by weight of a cell stabilizer and 0-5% by weight of other usual foam additives. The invention further relates to a method for preparing a physically foamed polyolefin thermal insulation foam and to the foam prepared therewith. The foam is very flexible and as a result the pipe insulation is particularly suitable for the thermal insulation of pipes for split air conditioning, district heating, solar energy exploitation and the process industry, even when it regards thin and/or twisting pipes. The pipe insulation can be recycled well.

  • Patent number: 4969787
Abstract: A device for attaching a plate or cap over an opening, comprising a rod or wire extending from the front through the plate or cap. On the end of the rod or wire extending into the opening, there is provided a spring clamp whose end remote from the rod or wire has a sharp point. The plate or cap has a closeable opening therein for introducing a foamable resin thereinto, which foamable resin forms a foam in the plate or cap and in the opening and, thus, seals the opening.

  • Patent number: 4785857
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of stoppering a pipe, or the like. The method uses a two-compartment flexible container, with one compartment containing an activating agent, and the other a foamable resin. After mixing a nipple is attached to a container wall. The nipple, on one end, has rupturing elements to rupture the wall and the other end is connected to a supply hose whose free end is brought to the desired location in the pipe for stoppering the same with foamed resin flowing from the container.

  • Patent number: 4751031
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for waterproofing and gastightening a cable or tube passage (9) in a wall (11) or the like, using a foamable synthetic resin (8). A box-shaped or cover-shaped element, e.g. a cap (1, 2) is attached to one side of the wall, after which through an opening in cap (1, 2) the foamable resin (8) is supplied therein and the opening is stopped. The cap (1, 2) may consist of two parts (1, 2) and the two parts may be provided with rupturable closures or closable openings.
