Abstract: A method and system for paratransit run-cutting is provided. A target number of paratransit vehicles is determined for each of a set of time intervals. A target number of trips corresponding to the target number of paratransit vehicles is generated for each time interval, each of said mock trips being defined such that a vehicle performing one of said mock trips in one of said time intervals is able to perform any of said mock trips in an immediately subsequent one of said time intervals. The target number of mock trips for each of the time intervals is entered into a fixed-route transit run-cutting application. Paratransit runs are created using fixed-route transit runs generated by said fixed-route transit run-cutting application.

A supply of vehicles required to meet a desired level of the expected demand over each of the time intervals during the time period is estimated. At least partial runs are blocked together from the supply estimated, during the estimating, for each of the time intervals during the time period according to a set of rules.

A supply of vehicles required to meet a desired level of the expected demand over each of the time intervals during the time period is estimated. At least partial runs are blocked together from the supply estimated, during the estimating, for each of the time intervals during the time period. Additional time is appended onto at least some of the at least partial runs during adjacent periods of relatively high variance according to a set of rules.
