  • Patent number: 7559913
Abstract: PD-cycler and tube set therefor and a method for use thereof. The tube set includes a transfer member for automatic transfer of possibly remaining contents in supply bags or heater bags of the tube set to a waste receiver. A separate connection unit is arranged in connection with a valve pack of the PD-cycler. The connection unit has a rod of ferromagnetic material which allows an indication that the tube set is in the correct position. The beater and drain bags are combined into a double bag which is supported by a yoke in a folded state, which is unfolded upon application into the PD-cycler.

  • Patent number: 6327895
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are disclosed for testing the integrity of a tube set used in a cycler for peritoneal dialysis comprising a closable housing for at least a portion of the tube set and an air pump for subjecting the housing to an underpressure or an overpressure, and clamps for clamping portions of the tube set passing into the housing. The method includes subjecting the housing to a first overpressure with the clamps closed whereby a first pressure leakage is observed, subjecting the housing to a second overpressure with the clamps open whereby a second pressure leakage is observed, and comparing the first and second pressure leakages so that action can be taken based upon that comparison.

  • Patent number: 6132405
Abstract: Catheters are disclosed for insertion into a body cavity. The catheters include a region near the distal end of the catheter which includes a number of apertures as well as a reduced diameter portion which has a diameter less than the diameter of the rest of the catheter region so that the flow of a fluid through the reduced diameter portion is reduced thereby.

  • Patent number: 5722947
Abstract: Apparatus for carrying out peritoneal dialysis. The apparatus comprises a weighing device (37) provided with a case (50) for forming an airtight space. A heat bag (38) and, optionally, a discharge bag (42) are positioned in the space, said bags being connected with a catheter for the patient, who is to perform peritoneal dialysis. The apparatus comprises a pump arrangement (57) connected with the case (50) for producing overpressure and underpressure, respectively, in the space inside the case. Valve arrangements (39, 44) are adapted to connect either the discharge bag (42) or the heat bag (38) with the patient's catheter. By providing an underpressure in the case (50). fresh dialysis solution is provided to the heat bag (38) from supply bags, whereupon used dialysis fluid is extracted from a patient to the discharge bag (42).

  • Patent number: 5338293
Abstract: Tube sets are disclosed for peritoneal dialysis including a unitary tubular member having a number of lumens, including at least two lumens, the first for supplying fresh dialysis solution to the patient, and the second for discharging spent dialysis solution from the patient, such that the unitary tubular member can both supply the fresh dialysis solution and discharge the spent dialysis solution and at the same time heat can be transferred therebetween.

  • Patent number: 4650458
Abstract: Apparatus is disclosed for the measurement and replacement of physiological fluids including a meter for measuring the amount of a physiological fluid flowing through the meter, a first conduit for continuously delivering the physiological fluid to the meter, a second conduit for replacing the measured amount of physiological fluid with a corresponding amount of a replacement fluid, and a pressure equalizer associated with the first conduit for equalizing the pressure in the physiological fluid flowing through the first conduit whereby the flow of the physiological fluid through the meter is substantially unaffected by pressure variations in the physiological fluid itself.

  • Patent number: 4535635
Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for measuring the pressure of a fluid comprising a pressure sensing element and a pressure transmitting element. The pressure transmitting element has at least one inlet for receiving the fluid whose pressure is to be measured and a pressure transmitting wall member in fluid communication with the inlet, whereby the pressure transmitting wall member may be brought into contact with the pressure sensing element and a source of vacuum for drawing the pressure transmitting wall member against the pressure sensing element so that the pressure sensing element can substantially measure the absolute pressure of the fluid.

  • Patent number: 4254891
Abstract: A stackable cover member for a container is provided which includes a countersunk central lid portion and a circumferential peripheral edge portion surrounding the lid portion. The edge portion of the cover member includes a flexible peripheral collar member, which is adapted to be sealed to the external sidewall of a container, and also includes an internal edge to be disposed internally within the container and which is integrally formed with the collar member. A groove is formed in the peripheral edge portion between the collar member and the internal edge for receiving an end edge of the container to which the cover member is to be sealed to. The internal edge has a transverse thickness greater than the collar member and forms the circumferential stacking edge of the cover member.

  • Patent number: 4230923
Abstract: A device for induction welding apparatus fashioned partly from a metal plate is disclosed. The metal plate is constructed so as to form an inductive loop for generating eddy currents in electrically conductive material placed adjacent thereto. The metal plate contains a groove for carrying a cooling medium; a second, similarly configured non-conductive plate is attached to the metal plate over said groove to allow passage of said cooling medium in said groove.

  • Patent number: 4103802
Abstract: A closure is provided and includes a sealing member and a cover for sealing and closing a container opening. The sealing member is sealed to the inner and outer walls of the container, and in one embodiment, an annular, ring-shaped element is provided for supporting the sealing member on the inside surface of the cover. In all embodiments, the cover includes a flange sealed to the external wall of the container, with the flange including a line of perforations forming a tear strip for removing the cover from the container. In the preferred embodiment, the removal of the cover causes the ring-shaped element to penetrate the sealing member and to form an annular opening in the sealing member so that the contents may be smoothly poured from the container.
