  • Patent number: 7053839
Abstract: An antenna for a portable communication apparatus has a radiator with first and second ends, the first end being connected to radio circuitry in the portable communication apparatus. The antenna also has a feedback conductor having a first end that is connected to the second end of the radiator. The feedback conductor extends along the radiator in a first direction from the second end of the radiator towards the first end of the radiator. A second end of the feedback conductor extends along the radiator in a second direction from the first end of the radiator towards the second end of the radiator, for tuning the frequency of the antenna.

  • Patent number: 6680704
Abstract: An antenna apparatus has a patch radiator member; a ground-plane back-up element for the patch radiator member; and a feed arrangement connecting the patch radiator member to radio circuitry. The patch radiator member has inner and outer patch portions that define a first open slot between first edges of the patch portions. A metallic wall portion connects second edges of the patch portions that are opposed to the first edges, and reflects a wave propagating toward the metallic wall portion and feeds the reflected wave toward the first open slot with a 180 degree phase reversal. A reflector-and-slot extension-metallic arm is folded over another open slot between the first edge of the inner patch portion and the ground plane back-up element to provide a 180 degree phase reversal by reflect-feedback of an outgoing wave from the another slot. The antenna apparatus can be made in small size for mounting within portable communications devices, while maintaining satisfactory operating characteristics.

  • Patent number: 6114999
Abstract: An antenna device for a Mobile Phone is disclosed, wherein a distance between a miniaturized radiator and a miniaturized reflector may be shortened by means of an introduced dielectric material optimizing the electrical distance between the radiator and reflector to create a compact antenna unit having a desired cardioid shaped radiation pattern. Furthermore an additional field reducing means in the form of metallic strips is used, for example utilizing an additional dielectric layer, with at least two thin isolated metallic strips running parallel to the current edges of the reflector element to thereby form chokes at the back of the reflector, which is normally directed towards the user, to further concentrate the near-field on this side to an area in between the chokes.

  • Patent number: 5805112
Abstract: A method and an arrangement uses an extra member intended to be connected to the ordinary grounding plane system of an antenna through a portion a the coaxial input terminal sleeve being present outside the case of an apparatus. The extra member is tuned in such a way that it preferably operates as an electrical quarter-wave radiator in a range at the upper limit of a designed operating frequency range, while the remaining effective grounding plane system of the antenna is preferably tuned to a frequency in a range at the lower limit of the intended operating frequency range, where, for instance, a portable radio telephone should operate, to in this way obtain an increased bandwidth and a reduced influence of immediate surrounding environment of the antenna of the portable equipment.

  • Patent number: 5600337
Abstract: A Y-Antenna which includes an elongate Y-shaped metal portion and a bottom plate of metal which is mounted beneath and substantially at right angles to the vertical shank of the Y-shaped metal portion and is galvanically connected to this shank. The Y-shaped metal structure includes two preferably parallel notches, quarter wave resonant on different frequencies and preferably open at one short end and which are electromagnetically coupled to one another. The two parallel notches are disposed in the V-shaped shanks of the Y and, in one preferred embodiment, have a common side which consists of the upper edge of the vertical portion of the Y. In one preferred embodiment, only one of the notches is directly fed with energy.

  • Patent number: 5592184
Abstract: A miniature antenna with an elongated base portion and an essentially circular top loop that is perpendicular thereto. A U-shaped load is connected between the partially helical base portion and the top loop, and its first leg is connected essentially perpendicular to the elongated base portion while its second leg is connected essentially tangential to the top loop.
