Publication number: 20140082320Abstract: The present invention relates to management of a state memory in a communications unit. The state memory then stores states that are used in message-based communication with external units in a communications system. The data message communicated between the units are defined into multiple message classes. Furthermore, the state memory is divided into multiple memory portions, where each such memory portion is assigned to store states associated with a specific message class. This will prevent overwriting important states with less useful states.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 26, 2013Publication date: March 20, 2014Applicant: TELEFONAKTIEBOLAGET L M ERICSSON (PUBL)Inventors: Jan Christoffersson, Hans Hannu

Patent number: 8621107Abstract: The invention relates to message-based communication between at least two units (100; 200) participating in a communications session. A first communications unit (100) generates and stores a state (10) comprising unit-associated data applicable for multiple messages to be communicated between the unit (100) and a second unit (200). A copy of this state (10) is then transmitted to the second unit (200), where it is stored. The state (10) and state copy can now be used in message processing for the purpose of reducing the message size and reducing utilization of communications resources. Data contained in the state (10) or state copy and found in the message (m1) is removed from the message prior transmission thereof. The resulting reduced-size message (m1?USD) is transmitted to the receiving unit, where the message (m1?USD) is anew processed by re-entering the data, removed by the transmitting unit, into the message (m1?USD) using the state copy or state. The original message (m1) is then recreated.Type: GrantFiled: March 26, 2004Date of Patent: December 31, 2013Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Hans Hannu, Jan Christoffersson

Patent number: 8553724Abstract: The present invention is directed towards compressing and decompressing data transmitted between an end terminal (12) and a network server (20) controlling compression in communication sessions involving the end terminal. States related to the end terminal that are created and used for compressing and decompressing data transmitted between the end terminal and the network server when the end terminal is first registered to the first network server are saved as the end terminal deregisters from the first network server. When the end terminal again registers to the network server these saved states are directly used. In this way it is possible to start compressing data using the saved states immediately after a following registering for providing a more effective dynamic compression.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 2005Date of Patent: October 8, 2013Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (Publ)Inventors: Jan Christoffersson, Hans Hannu

Publication number: 20130230008Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and a user equipment for use in a wireless communication system. The method and user equipment allow for transmit power adjustment of the transmit power of a selected of a plurality of antennas of the user equipment. The method comprised a transmit power adjustment phase during which it is test (23) is performed to decrease the transmit power of the selected antenna. A number of TPC commands are then analyzed (24) to determine a result of the decreased transmit power indicating a change in received power at a base station. Based on the determined result it is decided to continue (27) with the decreased transmit power or to resume (26) the previous transmit power of the selected antenna after completion of the transmit power adjustment phase.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 28, 2010Publication date: September 5, 2013Applicant: TELEFONAKTIEBOLAGET L M ERICSSON (PUBL)Inventors: Jan Christoffersson, Mårten Ericson

Patent number: 8428025Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus and method for triggering change of a Radio Resource Control (RRC) state for a user equipment operating in a cellular network. According to the method a Radio Link Control (RLC) buffer threshold associated with a Radio Link Control buffer is set to an initial value upon the user equipment entering a CELL_FACH RRC state. The RLC buffer threshold is decreased as a function of time. A RRC state change for the user equipment between the CELL_FACH RRC state and a CELL_DCH RRC state is triggered according to a predetermined rule based on a current size of the RLC buffer and the RLC buffer threshold. The method facilitates achieving a desired RRC state transition behavior for some types of users.Type: GrantFiled: May 27, 2011Date of Patent: April 23, 2013Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Hans Hannu, Jan Christoffersson, Mårten Ericson, Rui Fan

Publication number: 20130070683Abstract: In a method and a device for setting the Transport Format Combination size step in a scheduler of a cellular radio system to be used by a user equipment transmitting data to a radio base station of the cellular radio system, the Transport Format Combination size step is set as a function of a number of pre-defined cell and/or user conditions. This will increase the user bit Crate at low load. Specifically, the time to reach a high bitrate in low load situations is reduced. This leads to enhanced user experience for bursty services such as World Wide Web (WWW) services.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 26, 2010Publication date: March 21, 2013Applicant: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Mats Blomgren, Jan Christoffersson, Márten Ericson

Publication number: 20110076969Abstract: The present invention is about tuning the gating scheme according to the performance of the application used. This can mean that in some situations gating is not used at all while in other occasions gating is used where the cycle length, burst length, number of preambles and offset are adjusted. The performance is monitored and the gating is increased or decreased depending on the results of the monitoring and demands of the application. Furthermore, the gating scheme adapts to the current performance and is chosen to optimize performance in terms of system capacity. The monitoring also takes into account which of the gating cycles that needs to be changed. The algorithm is self tuning/configuring meaning that it will control the gating scheme to find and keep an optimal level for the used application. The method may be implemented both in a mobile terminal (UE) and in an infrastructure node (BS) and executed by instruction sets belonging to a computer program.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 2, 2008Publication date: March 31, 2011Applicant: TELEFONAKTIEBOLAGET LM ERICSSON (PUBL)Inventors: Marten Ericson, Jan Christoffersson
