  • Publication number: 20040074503
Abstract: A device for temporarily preventing flow of urine out of the urethra in a person suffering from urine incontinence comprises a first composition (11) enclosed in a first container (10) capable of being fed into the urethra (17) which is thereby blocked. The first container (10) comprises a mouthpiece (12) for insertion into the urethra (17) and for transport of the first composition (11) from the container (10) into the urethra (17). The first composition (11) comprises or is capable of forming a gel for blocking of the urethra by a gelatinous plug. The plug may be mechanically removed if the person wishes to urinate; alternatively the device may comprise a second composition in a second container for removal of the gel plug. In the latter alternative injection of the second composition in the urethra (17) adjacent to the gel plug causes the breakdown of the plug. Also disclosed is a corresponding method and the use of the first and second compositions in urine incontinence.

  • Patent number: 6524333
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for therapeutical treatment of a blood vessel. It comprises in combination a stent, a balloon catheter for the insertion of the stent into a blood vessel, and a generator for generating ultrasound. The stent can be expanded radially and is of such construction that it is caused to vibrate and/or develop heat when exposed to ultrasound. Inserted into the blood vessel the stent can be expanded by means of the balloon catheter to engage the inside surface of the blood vessel in order to be left in the expanded condition as an inside lining in the blood vessel after the balloon catheter having been withdrawn from the blood vessel. Energy is transferred wirelessly by means of ultrasound generated by the generator, from an extra-corporeal position to the stent as located in the blood vessel engaging the inside surface thereof.

  • Patent number: 6224591
Abstract: Device for hyperthermia treatment in a body cavity comprising a catheter (10) to be introduced into the body cavity and being closed at the distal end thereof. An elastically expandable hose piece (18) is mounted at this end, which is sealingly connected to the catheter at both ends of the hose piece. Two passages (11, 12) extend through the catheter and can be connected each to an associated liquid conduit (26, 27) at the proximal end of the catheter. The passages open under the hose piece through side apertures (21, 22) in the catheter so that the hose piece can be expanded as a balloon by the supply of liquid through one passage liquid being drained off through the other passage. The device comprises external means (28, 31) for circulating liquid through the hose piece on the catheter and heating of the circulating liquid.

  • Patent number: 5899909
Abstract: A surgical instrument and a method for treating female urinary incontinence. The instrument comprises a shank having a handle at one end thereof, and two curved needle-like elements which are connected at one end thereof each with one end of a tape intended to be implanted into the body. These elements can be connected one at a time with the shank at the other end thereof to form a curved end portion of the shank and are intended to be passed into the body via the vagina, each element being dimensioned to extend from the inside of the vaginal wall over the back of the pubic bone to the outside of the abdominal wall. When practicing the method the tape is passed into the body via the vagina first at one end and then at the other end at one side and the other, respectively, of the urethra to form a loop around the urethra, located between urethra and the vaginal wall. The tape is extended over the pubis and through the abdominal wall and is tightened.
