  • Patent number: 4467607
Abstract: A system for controlling the inlet pressure in a combustion engine includes a microprocessor wherein a command value for the pressure as a function of engine speed is stored and which controls a solenoid valve controlling the pressure in a pneumatic operating mechanism to a waste gate in a shunt pipe past the turbine.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 16, 1982
Date of Patent: August 28, 1984
    Assignee: AB Volvo
Inventors: Jan E. Rydquist, Lars Sandberg, Ralf Wallin
  • Patent number: 4463565
Abstract: A system for preventing knocking combustion in a turbocharged Otto engine includes a knock detector mounted on the engine block and coupled to a microprocessor which controls the engine charge pressure and ignition timing. Upon indication of a certain knocking intensity, the processor sends signals to a valve regulating the charge pressure to reduce this pressure as well as signals to the engine timing control system to retard the engine ignition timing.

  • Patent number: 4459808
Abstract: A system for achieving temporary increase in performance in a turbo-charged combustion engine comprises a microprocessor in which there are stored a value of the maximum permissible charge pressure at constant load and a higher value of the maximum permissible charge pressure at increasing load. The processor senses the charge pressure and is connected to means which sense the rate of opening of the throttle. At a certain rate of opening, the processor permits an increase in the charge pressure to the higher pressure and thereafter effects timed reduction of the charge pressure to the maximum permissible pressure at constant load.
